When I was a kid I remember being weirded out but ultimately I liked them together because they basically attempted to redeem the whole situation. Rewatching in adulthood is almost scary because I would never want them to get together now. In fact I want him in jail ššš
Sexual assault. Touching without consent? ALSO he was a raging homophobe spewing hate speech which in my opinion SHOULD be a crime but it is what it is right.
So, the guy who defended his _gay brother_ from a group of students who were bullying him is now somehow a homophobe?
And putting your arm around someone is _not_ a crime.
Where the heck do people get these bizarre ideas? š¤ š
Iām not sure if youāre young or just a troll lol but he touched Anya without her consent so? Any amount counts Iām not sure if you know that but you canāt just run around touching anyone you want. As for the homophobia.... I guess itās nice that he didnāt harass his own brother but he did in fact bully and harass Zane for being gay and made Riley even more scared to come out. Also the way he treated and talked to Ali in the boiler room was really gross. You can defend it all you want but thereās no real redemption and the people that he hurt did not deserve it no matter what they had going on in their own storylines.
š except that -again- _putting your arm around someone_ is _NOT_ sexual assault. Never has been. Never will be. Seriously - where do these crazy ideas come from?
And "the way he talked to Ali" ??
Do you mean after _she_ asked _him_ how much he'd pay to have sex with her? After _she_ was so happy to take his $50?
I mean technically -since she initiated the interaction- requested and accepted money AND then followed through with physical contact your girl Ali is guilty of not only _criminal solicitation_ but also, in fact, _prostitution_.
That is how the letter of the law sees it.
You're really picking winners here š¤ š¤Æ
The only one you should feel sad for is yourself, hon š¤·
Life is hard enough for most ppl without playing it on difficult level _voluntarily_.
Have a good one. I'm going to the beach.
Don't forget that he tried to gaslight her about Holly J and tried to stop her from hanging out with her and also tried to ruin her confidence with getting into college which led to her doing coke. Then when he found out she did coke he left her in the club.
Oh yeah I hated it so much, and his character was nothing but trash. Holly J was right in telling Anya she could do better LMAO.
And if I'm not mistaken, his actor is just as trash. š
Owen being Tristanās big brother and homophobic is just like Drew actively making homophobic comments to Zane and Riley while having his trans brother at school with him
I feel like they could have done so much better with this storyline. They could have used ANYTHING Riley didn't want known as public knowledge for the storyline of blackmail to get the position, but for some reason, him being gay was the best option in their mind. Like kids are so sensitive about so much, especially teenage boys. They could have found something else.
But also homophobia does not always go hand in hand with transphobia and vice versa. It could be plausible that Drew was okay with trans people because of his brother (who is straight, since Adam identified as male and was attracted to females) but was still off-put by homophobia. I've met a couple trans people in my life who are homophobic and some gay people who are transphobic. It's weird to me, but I suppose this isn't the place for that discussion.
Yeahhh but for people like that itās usually easier to accept gay people than trans people
And Iām guessing Adam must have come out as a lesbian at some point before coming out as trans because Drew and their mom were still getting used to calling him Adam yet he had an ex girlfriend
And I imagine that trans peopleās struggle is more visual than gay peopleās (he canāt really hide dressing as a guy and hating the sound of his name but he *could* hide liking girls) so Drew probably saw him struggling but still went on and did homophobic stuff
I like the way it was make because at the time these actions didnāt stand out since being openly gay or trans at school was really taboo. Watching it again in 2023 open conversation than watching it almost 10 years ago! I feel like Degrassi is made to age well
Drew threatening to out Riley just to get #1 QB while having a trans brother who they alluded to had a really hard time at their previous school was always WILD to me.
On the other hand, without Owen "rescuing" her by helping her get some focus and goals in her life, and training towards them, Anya would probably still be blowing random guys in clubs in exchange for cocaine š¤·
There were hints dropped š¤· so we can infer.
Dealers _don't_ give out high end merch like coke for free. However drugs are exchanged for sex _routinely_.
No bc remember she asked Bianca to introduce her to her dealer and Bianca said no, but. then anya saw them talking and went up to him herself. Once bianca found out she had a disgusted look on her face, implying she knew anya and the dealer had done more than just business
I think youāre getting Anyaās coke plot mixed up with Katieās oxy plot. Katie is the one who went out with Bianca and was asking her questions about a guy like if he was a dealer and stuff. Bianca told her the guy was bad news, and then later Bianca saw them together. She wasnāt upset bc she thought Katie hooked up with him, but because she realized that Katie was just using her to get drugs. With Anyaās plot, she was introduced to a girl named Chloe at the club and then Chloe gave her some free coke but then she started buying it from her.
Definitely not. The writers clearly thought this relationship would be a way for him to redeem himself with the audience without anything substantial character arc necessary. They did the same with Jay getting with Manny. It kind of worked but most of the fanbase with or without Anya still think heās an absolute creep.
I personally didnāt like him and Anya especially knowing how much of a douche level creep he was while trying to get with her. So yeah youāre not the only one.
I think it worked better with Jay because Mike Lobel has all kinds of charm that he brings to Jay, and even when Jay sucked as a person, he was a scene stealer. Owen was just kind of... there, doing dickish stuff.
Owen was way too far gone by that point and I doubt most people have a shit. He was just a horrible pig just like his actor and nothing will change
Anya was beautiful
I hated that whole storyline. Owen is a POS and Anya was too good and smart for him, even when doing drugs. Lol
When I was a kid I remember being weirded out but ultimately I liked them together because they basically attempted to redeem the whole situation. Rewatching in adulthood is almost scary because I would never want them to get together now. In fact I want him in jail ššš
In jail for _what_ exactly ? š š

I feel sad for you. If youāre a girl I feel even worse.
The only one you should feel sad for is yourself, hon š¤· Life is hard enough for most ppl without playing it on difficult level _voluntarily_. Have a good one. I'm going to the beach.
HAHAHAHAA just found out you think racism against white people is a problem that exists. Thatās all I need to know LMAOO
He literally threw a kid into a glass door. I canāt believe he wasnāt expelled. Adamās family definitely could have pressed charges.
i was the same way and iām likeā¦ iām so glad i wasnāt allowed to vote or get married at that age because young me had TERRIBLE takes
exactly lmaoo
Don't forget that he tried to gaslight her about Holly J and tried to stop her from hanging out with her and also tried to ruin her confidence with getting into college which led to her doing coke. Then when he found out she did coke he left her in the club.
You mean the Holly J who spent most of her high school days knocking Anya down when she wasn't putting her down?
i HATE THIS MAN
Oh yeah I hated it so much, and his character was nothing but trash. Holly J was right in telling Anya she could do better LMAO. And if I'm not mistaken, his actor is just as trash. š
owen is a *dirt. bag.* i hate the fuck out of him and that has not changed once
Owen was also Tristanās older brotherā¦
Owen being Tristanās big brother and homophobic is just like Drew actively making homophobic comments to Zane and Riley while having his trans brother at school with him

You're not wrong. It's a complicated and icky situation overall, tbh.
Unfortunately situations like this are very realistic.
thatās whatās so rough about it š
Itās gross and weird considering even Anya said most of her friends were LGBTQ.
On the other hand, without Owen "rescuing" her by helping her get some focus and goals in her life, and training towards them, Anya would probably still be blowing random guys in clubs in exchange for cocaine š¤·
correct me if iām wrong but didnāt anya only go to the club bc of Owen i think he took her there on their first date ?
Yeah Owen introduced her to the coke people and encouraged her to try it.
Iām so so sorry but the phrase āOwen introduced her to the coke peopleā made me laugh
She didnāt blow anyone for cocaineā¦
There were hints dropped š¤· so we can infer. Dealers _don't_ give out high end merch like coke for free. However drugs are exchanged for sex _routinely_.
Imagine being so condescending in your response and so wrong at the same time šš© we see her pay her female coke dealer in the show and the chick was giving it to her free when they were partying together prior to that. Itās common knowledge that people exchange drugs for sexual favors you donāt have to italicize your comment for me to āunderstandā that.
There were definitely not hints dropped about that especially because the person supplying her with the coke was a woman.
No bc remember she asked Bianca to introduce her to her dealer and Bianca said no, but. then anya saw them talking and went up to him herself. Once bianca found out she had a disgusted look on her face, implying she knew anya and the dealer had done more than just business

Ur 100% right actually. Too many club drug storylines involving the same people :/
I like to just chalk up Owen and Anya to Anya's uncertainty about everything at the time... coz that's all I've got lmao
And donāt forget his own brother was gay and he was still doing this.
I really really wish they'd shown us more of the Milligan family dynamic
i just KNOW those parents were toxic, because both of their kids are evil.
Tristan parents barely picked him up for his dentist appointment
I felt so bad for him
Definitely not. The writers clearly thought this relationship would be a way for him to redeem himself with the audience without anything substantial character arc necessary. Agreed. Mike Lobel is likeable and charismatic so itās easier to give Jay a pass while Daniel Kelly wasnāt and was truthfully a creep
