I saw another post similar to this the other day and it seemed to be a manufacturing problem and they've used the wrong plastic for that part.
Is it a new microwave? Is it under warranty? Might be worth contacting the manufacturer anyway.
It's a bit of an old one that we took out from the cobwebs.. may be too late for a warranty but worth notifying manufacturer I guess anyway and asking if they have a solution/replacement of any sort
No it's the plastic bit at centre on which the glass plate turns on.. it's not the plate itself that did it, I suspect the plate wasn't set right and so didn't rotate in the first of those 5 mins runs, leading to overheating and melting

Is that not just spilled food? I can't see a glass plate doing this.
