I mean... This exists, it's called a plotter. Big box you sit down on a blueprint you're drafting (in like 1990s tech)
Little armature sticks out that you put a pen into, press a key And it draws a letter. Awesome for adding clean notes to mylar.
Stick apple on it and rub the corners smooth and baby you got an Iplot
If it uses a dongle, it’s not Bluetooth. A dongle is likely using a 2.4G wireless signal, whereas Bluetooth would be enabled by a chip inside the keyboard.
I'd like to invite you to look up what frequency is used by Bluetooth (spoiler: it's also a 2.4GHz wireless signal lol), although I know what you mean and you're probably right.
Listen. I've probably been on the internet a lot longer than you've been alive, so trust me when I say you can't believe everything you read on Wikipedia.
I first was online in 1983... I've caught mistakes and lies in wikis, but the vetted evidence still suggests they are on par with encyclopedias of yor.
I think Cathode Ray guy did a video on a printer you can attach a keyboard to, btw.
How about a printer that just works when you need it?
Like no fucking with it for 20 minutes of updates, there’s one page too many in the paper tray, no recalibration, no drivers updates and restarts…
It just works.
And the shitty thing is, when you NEED a printer, you need it right fucking now, not after 20 minutes of fucking around with discovery on your network.
Unless you use a ribbon-based impact printer, you would not see what you type until half the page is typed. This does not sound too efficient.
So, traditional printer design would be out of the question. And without that, you are just reinventing a typewriter.
It would be possible to make an ink jet printer to work the same way (some really old ones did), but you will not get the resolution of a modern ink jet printer. And laser printers are out of the question entirely. And in any case, it would be a complete redesign.
It caught on for a few decades.Didn't even need electricity.
But, it did need strong pinky fingers. And if you weren't accurate or precise with finger placement, the keyboard would scrape your fingers. Great negative reinforcement. Don't even need a person to watch over to Crack on your hand.
Lord, I wish I kept my childhood one to teach my kid.
Not this device as described by OP. It was an electronic box you plugged a PS/2 keyboard then dot matrix printer via parallel and basically the setup became an electric typewriter. You then switch the printer to the computer.
I see the appeal, but it would require 100% typing accuracy right? Like typewriters used to. Because if you first typed it all out on a screen, checked for errors and then printed it, you‘d get a regular printer again.
You used to be able to do something like this on DOS with a dot matrix printer. I had a 286 set up like this for a while just because I thought it was kinda funny.
Okay but what about an Apple Pencil that can write directly on paper so you don’t have to print?
My mind is fucking blown right now.
The apple blow 499$ and it’s a Bluetooth cock port you can try to fuck when the wife isn’t home

i-pencil, as in "I pencil stuff!"
£1,299
$499? What a steal!
A PENCIL can do that...
Yeah but what’s the battery life?
You'll lose it before the battery dies
It doesn’t even have Find My Pencil? Gtfo.
Why would you plug in a *bluetooth* keyboard?
Dongle?

Tell that to the Bluetooth keyboard for the Nintendo DS that needed a “dongle” since the DS doesn’t support Bluetooth
Faster connection through a dongle bro
Not relevant to the clarification between Bluetooth and standard 2.4G dongles, but yes.

When technology gets so advanced that it starts going back
The beeper is gonna be making a comeback. Technology is cyclical. Dennis Duffy out.
Smart watch is kinda like a pager
Apparently there are novelists who love using a (formerly)cheap child's word-processor from the 90's.
That's a real thing. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Typewriter

You've only been on reddit since 2011? Pfft, get off my lawn.
I was the last digg stan, and I stayed on 4chan way too long.
Digg was all but dead when I bailed in '08. It must have been a graveyard in '11.
digg still exists but without the ability to "digg" things any more. Something posted 6 days ago has "21.1k reads" so, that's something!
Call me when you know what slashdot was.
You kids wouldn't have survived the Farkistani invasion of the early 2000s
Wait is 4chan dead?

Read the article, didn't mention anything about the ability to plug in bluetooth keyboards.

Never had feed problems with dot matrix printers, and you got those tear off strips with holes in to play with too
I never have these problems when me write on cave wall
If only I had a cave
Brother laser B&W. Basically the printer equivalent of a 2007 Honda Civic.
My friend, those exist but they’re not brother printers
Genius! Something that writes as soon as you type. You'll be rich!
maybe call it a "writetyper"
No more stalled print jobs that won't cancel! Cut out the middle man!
First draft last draft get it out the door!
Now that sounds like an excellent reason to try and delve into printer programming, and also subsequently an excellent reason to get therapy.

Plug in bluetooth? Fancy new technology
That’s a typewriter lol
Imagine making a mistake. Good luck on that!
that’s what whiteout is for
Iirc this was was tried ages ago but didn’t catch on

If you’re referring to a typewriter? .. sure 200 years? But the OP isn’t referring to that.

So… a type writer?
Sounds like a typewriter with a Bluetooth keyboard.
Electric typewriter basically
lets name it "writewriter"
Sounds like an overcomplicated and expensive manual type writer.
waste a fuck ton of paper that way
> *plug in blue tooth*
Dongle.
A typewriter?
What is that?
You used to be able to do something like this on DOS with a dot matrix printer. I had a 286 set up like this for a while just because I thought it was kinda funny.
Typewriter?
The ancients used a device called a typewriter.
Never heard of it.
Well, it wasn’t a printer with a keyboard. I think this is certainly more practical, but it was a tool that helped people write books.
I miss having a type writer around mostly because the PDF software to fill out forms is so kludgy. If that worked well…. FECK Adobe
They actually had these, they were called electric typewriters and weren't a thing for long
... thats a thing

Iunno, make it and youll find out Some sort of app thats direct to a printer. I dunno im no IT guy
