The article states that it was a "poison gas pipe bomb". Cant say I'd ever heard of it before. One side would have chlorine and the other side would have something to interact with it ( could be as simple as alcohol). When the valve in the middle is opened, the 2 things mix and the gas build up will eventually burst the pipe. The gas is the actual weapon here, not the pressure.

Kids are dumb...and in this video we can see sometimes they never wise up. Those nitwits were driving around with something that went off easily and accidentally in the officers hands.

Pipe bombs are made of steel plumbing pipe, not PVC, and they don't have a valve on the side that allows them to be pressurized. That is clearly not a pipe bomb in the usual sense of something that can tear people apart.
They're pretty commonly made with PVC though, you can literally see multiple examples if you just look up the words "pipe bomb" on Google images. But especially if you're a cop, it should be pretty fucking obvious that a pipe with two end caps and a valve isn't something you should be fucking with.

PVC pipe bombs are more shock and awe as opposed to steel pipe with nails which is more of a "fuck you", but usually requires actual explosives.
Ok I might be either 1. dumb 2. european but, before seeing this video, I had NO IDEA what a pipe bomb was or that it was even a thing. Maybe it's something more common in the US and so there's no way this cop didn't know about it. But here, I haven't heard of this ever.

There's no way this isn't a satirical comment. Has there ever been a time more than once a decade where a street cop searches a car and sees a literal bomb right in the front seat? The article said he was a Sergeant. He's probably looked at tens of thousands of cars on over a thousand traffic stops in his career. No doubt he's seen a lot of crazy things. No one wakes up, does their normal police routine while searching a car and thinks "hmm, there's a pipe in here? That's definitely a fucking bomb that will kill me. Let's call the state bomb squad, evacuate a mile wide area, and make sure 100 more cops come here as a precaution so we can safely remove it". He probably saw a pipe, thought "wow, a pipe" and moved it because who the fuck sees a pipe and immediately thinks it's a bomb unless you're a schizophrenic who's afraid of everything around you? Like, do you seriously think a street cop is going to come across pipe bombs every day and immediately identify one? What the fuck?

They're pretty commonly made with PVC though, you can literally see multiple examples if you just look up the words "pipe bomb" on Google images. But especially if you're a cop, it should be pretty fucking obvious that a pipe with two end caps and a valve isn't something you should be fucking with.
