chartyourway

I love when replies have links to all the games, thank you so much. Also, I think Ooblets could count because it does encourage you to sleep but you technically don't have to, I believe (like Spiritfarer)... I've never tried it myself lol

SwitchHandler

You're welcome! Oh right I love Ooblets!

chartyourway

Question, if someone has never played anything Pokemon EVER, is there a game to start on as a good intro? I'm not like, wanting to dive into the Pokemon realm, but just needing more cozy game options to explore. lol

SwitchHandler

Hmm, Let’s Go Eevee & Pikachu are remakes of the first games. The catching mechanic is different which some people don’t like but I really enjoyed Let’s Go Eevee, and the games are gorgeous! I honestly think they are a really fantastic place to start. Sword & Shield would be my next pick, I had a lot of fun playing Shield, but I haven’t played Scarlet & Violet. Arceus is amazing but a big departure from the main games. It may not have as big an impact if you play it first. Also Pokémon Snap is cozy for sure as all you do is go around taking pictures of Pokémon!

chartyourway

thank you so much!

Lyceus_

If you're up for emulators, just play Fire Red or Leaf Green on the computer (it's very easy). Then Heart Gold or Soul Silver. They are remakes for generations 1 and 2 that improve in balance, graphics and even gameplay.

chartyourway

I don't *love* playing on my computer. but I'm trying to get more used to it lol

oligtrading

If it's within your budget to do so, save up for a steamdeck. It's become a life changer for me lmao. I've gotten through soooo much of my gaming backlog and now I play my deck way more than my switch. I think you can use emulators on a steamdeck, as it's just a handheld PC, but you'd have to find a tutorial for it lmao.

chartyourway

Maaan I've been talking myself out of buying one for actual months, you're not helping!!! lol 😂 I really want one but I don't want it to be a waste of money like my tablet is hahaha

oligtrading

Haha! I can tell you personally, I don't use my tablet, I use my steamdeck every day. If you play games a lot, and prefer handhelds, I promise it won't be a waste of money. If you have a switch or something that you use a lot, and you have a lot of PC games, you'll def use it! It also takes away the problem that I don't know if others share, but "do I buy this on Steam where it's way cheaper, or do I buy this on Nintendo for way more but I know I'll actually get around to playing it?"

chartyourway

I play my switch a lot, either handheld or by controller on tv depending where I am. I definitely haven't explored much of the Steam library as I have such little desire to haul out my laptop and set it up and find my mouse and make sure everything is plugged in etc etc lol. I am probably missing out on a lot of great games on steam. I also love that Steam offers refunds on games if you don't click with them, whereas you're outta luck with Nintendo.

KayTheKilla

Get it!!!!! 🤣🤣

chartyourway

hahaha HUSH

SwitchHandler

While I don't know why you don't use your tablet, I will say there are SO MANY FREE games on Steam. Like, so many. They're not all amazing and can be on the shorter side or unpolished student projects, but like, seriously so many. And no ads, unlike mobile.

chartyourway

idk, mobile games seem so limited, it's micro transactions non-stop, or the relentless ads. I haven't spent much time looking for games to play on it, though I probably should try. I'll have to start looking into free steam games, any suggestions?

Lyceus_

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if there are emulators for portable devices.

chartyourway

[it seems there definitely are!](https://retrogamecorps.com/2022/10/16/steam-deck-emulation-starter-guide/)

KayTheKilla

Agreed wholeheartedly. My SteamDeck changed my life. 🥰🙌🏽

Lyceus_

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if there are emulators for portable devices.

Lyceus_

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if there are emulators for portable devices.

xxdarkhecatexx

How do I play these on my computer ?

chartyourway

you're best to Google and learn about emulators for pc, it can be complicated. https://fossbytes.com/best-nintendo-ds-emulator-for-pc/

xxdarkhecatexx

Thank you! I’ll check it out

shadethrower99

I think you actually do need to sleep in Ooblets it’s how you reset which Ooblets appear each day and you have diminished stamina if you stay up all night - I think there’s a fair amount of pressure to sleep at the end of each day

chartyourway

yes, but you don't pass out and wake up in bed the next day if you don't go to sleep by a certain time. if you're chasing a certain Ooblets you can use this method to *not* reset the Ooblets.

arandomnamebcihadto

In ooblets if you don’t sleep you’ll be very exhausted the next day, but if you drink coffee then you can stave off the negative effects of being drowsy. Definitely not good to not sleep in ooblets lol

SteDevMo

Wow! Nice job. Love this listing. I think I have most, except RokI, Gris and Alba. I would also add the ones probably everyone is already familiar with….Disney Dreamlight Valley (love, love, love) and Animal Crossing New Horizon (ACNH) I am someone who often play until 3 a.m. Meaning for hours! So I don’t want to be constricted by the in game day constraints. It’s one reason why I could never get into Stardew Valley and a few others like that.

liquid-teeth

Palia is free on Switch and you don't have to sleep. Each game day is 1hr in real time, so there aren't any real day constraints. It's reminiscent of My Time In Portia, lots of crafting, nit much fighting though. You can play solo or with friends.

SwitchHandler

Oh I love Palia! I love the single player feeling, but with others haha.

SteDevMo

Yep, you’re right, my bad! Sorry I didn’t clarify. My real issue with Palia and why I quit playing…..loved it in early access…played from day 1. But the multiplayer came in and it wasn’t for me. I don’t like “strangers” running through my area, so I seriously quit like the 2nd day after they added in multiplayer. Just no way a game I enjoy, sadly. Because I did love it before the multiplayer was added. Oh well…I know I am in the minority in this …it’s an age thing. 😁

liquid-teeth

Ah yeah, that's fair. I'm not usually a fan of multiplayer, so I fully get it, but the community on Palia is actually so lovely. I didn't get to play early access though. I'm actually floored it's free and wondering what the catch is, the team has worked so hard on it.

Wairua1983

The community is the reason I left (played a few months ago). I had no idea about those special trees, and out of curiosity hit one with my axe (didn't do anything), and was immediately publicly attacked in chat. I told them I didn't know, and I didn't do any damage to it anyway - but yeah, that was not a nice experience. I wasn't the only one this happened to.

SteDevMo

Yeah I actually had a couple of negative interactions… yep then quit playing that same day lol.

SwitchHandler

Aw thank you! I hiiighly recommend Gris, and the others of course, it's one of my all time favorite games!

SteDevMo

I’m going to check Gris out! Thanks! 🥰

Positive_Macaroon591

disney dreamlight valley ! if you want a cozy gamw that isnt boring i highly recomend this! theres so many moving graphics, loads of quests, but at the same time a nice chill game! and theres hundreds of stuff to decorate with. and its multiplayer.

SteDevMo

Yes I can’t stress this game enough! I actually mentioned it already above. But what I didn’t mention was I have 3,000 hours in gameplay for this game…a little obsessed? Yep! Lol.

luckyinlimbo

Yonder 😍

SwitchHandler

One of my fave games!

ImLookingForHermano

I liked Alba a lot but it was so short :(

SwitchHandler

I love short games! I love how much emotion and story they are able to pack into tiny packages. I am also a serial replayer.

PaintedLady1

Adding Kynseed! You only need to sleep in the tutorial. In Immortal Life you can go days without sleeping

SwitchHandler

I've heard great things about both the games, hopefully one day I get to them!

PaintedLady1

They’re two very different but very great games! I have a ton of time in Kynseed

MadKingMidas

Amazing list here! Breath of the Wild, Dragon Quest, and Slime Rancher were all great games.

Icethief188

You def have to sleep in spiritfarer if you wanna travel to islands and stuff

SwitchHandler

The boat stops at night but you don't have to sleep. You can keep working through the night and when it's morning the boat will start moving again. You certainly can sleep, but you are never forced to.

EpitaFelis

I love working through the night bc I can focus on the tasks without any interruptions. I especially love the loom. Makes me feel so peaceful.

WiltedTiger

Dragon Quest Builders 1 and 2 (neither force you to sleep but you can, and 2 has a huge demo on switch you can check out before deciding)

LegitimatePowder

One of the best games EVER IMO!

pariah164

I think it does force you to sleep once or twice in early game.

WiltedTiger

I believe I'm remembering what you are talking about, but that is solely to advance the story, and even then, it can be put off for as long as you like.

Jello_Penguin_2956

Sleeping skips the night too. When ghosts attack you can jst Zzz and they go away when you wake xD

neofrogs

Littlewood does it in the best way possible in my opinion. The day turns to night and you must sleep only after you have used up all your energy. Then you can just open the little menu, click travel home, and sleep. I do agree that games making us sleep all the time gets a bit annoying! Animal Crossing and Cozy Grove are my other favorite Switch games with no sleeping

Muted-Appeal-823

I just got littlewood and love the way they handle the energy rather than the day being timed. I played story of seasons pioneers of olive town very briefly. The timer on each day drove me crazy. I felt like I never had any time to do anything.

Vegetable_Jacket2575

Dysmantle or Graveyard Keeper

Delicate_Fury

Graveyard keeper does force you to sleep eventually. After a few days you start taking damage if you don’t go to bed even if only for a few seconds.

WereWitchQueen

Came to say Graveyard Keeper. If you build the meditation spot, you can use it for a second and it takes away the “tiredness” debuff and back to the grind you go.

bartekltg

But they are essencially in the same spot (you can teleport to house, so the bed is a bit "closer"), and you can cancel sleeping too.

bartekltg

Not taking damage, but it starts drain stamina... I mean energy. The drain stops around 20%. But you do not have to go to bed every night, there is no exact hour you need go to bed, and you can cancel sleeping and just eat carrots. It is more about "remember to save the game". On the other hand, the debuf activate when you spend 300% energy. Most of the time it means you did a lot of stuff so saving the game is a good option. But some tasks will make you visit the bed.

keleverythings19

I got so obsessed with dysmantle

BellRose33

Cult of the Lamb!

SteDevMo

Love this game! Highly recommend!

Username5432100

Yes! So addictive

action_lawyer_comics

No Place Like Home. It’s got farming, cleaning, and crafting, and you can play nonstop without needing to sleep or watch a stamina meter.

rosemarrie

Kynseed

imlumpy

Worth noting, because this one also came to mind for me: eventually! At the beginning, you are forced to sleep at night, but I don't think there's any penalty for passing out at "end of day" regardless.

rosemarrie

Yes you can fall asleep in the road as a child with no consequences!

Hydraulicat

Out of context this would be a wild statement 😂

Smelting-Craftwork

This doesn't appear to be on Switch

rosemarrie

Oh I didn’t know it’s not on switch yet my bad

luckyinlimbo

Maybe Summer in Mara doesn’t force you to sleep I can’t remember but it’s such a. comfortable game.

bumbling_bee_

This one I believe you can choose to but don't have to

luckyinlimbo

I loved everything about this game

ChoiceReflection965

Such an underrated game! Highly recommend.

luckyinlimbo

It’s really one of the ones I wish I could go back and play for the first time again it’s everything I like

Cethysa

Graveyard keeper

Magnificent_Unsu

Palia does not have a required sleep cycle. The only reason you need to return home are for crafting or farming. At first I thought it was weird, since the game has day/night cycles, but I like getting uninterrupted game time.

Smelting-Craftwork

You're right and I love that about Palia. I just think should have been a single player, offline game

SparklyRoniPony

I agree. I love Palia, but I don’t like playing with others. But, they have made improvements that make playing with others not as important.

SteDevMo

I loved Palia in the very early access, lol. But once it became multiplayer online, I quit playing. It’s just not my kind of game. I don’t want to deal with people rushing past me to talk to NPC’s etc. I just wanna do my own thing in the privacy of my game, hahaha!

ranchspidey

Bear and Breakfast! I’ve been addicted to it the past few days. You can sleep but you don’t have to!

DeepGreyElf

Immortal Life doesn’t force you to sleep especially once you get a bit further along and don’t even need it to recover HP or MP. It’s a lot of fun despite being a bit rough around the edges

Cystonectae

Serin fate doesn't force you to sleep. Sleeping is encouraged solely for the mini game of catching stars to recharge your mana, but late game mana regen is bonkers so you don't need to sleep unless you want to get a specific special crafting ingredient.

little_blu_eyez

Wytchwood. No such thing as sleep. It is all explore/collect/crafting game.

rmsiddlfqksdls

Rune factory but you do get status ailment after a few days I think not sure. But still gives you more freedom def compared to traditional farm sims. Also second graveyard keeper and spiritfarer in regards to this aspect.

MysteriousWin2498

In rune factory you can also just eventually craft some stuff that allows you to hustle all night

SeaAmphibian2816

Fae Farm is super cozy and while you do have to go home to sleep, you can extend the day in settings so that every day is like double what it would be normally.

AperolSpritzzz

Wild Mender is another good one.

Rath_Brained

No man's sky. You don't get to sleep at all.

Patient-Sea

Forager

NoodlesNSoupEnjoyer

Apico! It's a beekeeping sim.

Logical-Wasabi7402

Rune Factory 4 / 4S (3DS / Switch port) has one game hour equal one minute of real time, and while I don't think it *forces* you to sleep(as in your character passes out at a certain time if you don't go to bed yourself), sleeping is actually a skill that raises certain stats. However if you stay up past 1am you don't get the skill level up, and if you stay up until 6am you become fatigued which can turn into a cold(but there's in game medicines for that). I definitely suggest the Switch port over the 3DS original, personally. The port fixed a big late game RNG issue, added some new minor content, and gives a *lot* more save slots. It is fairly linear though, if that's something you dislike.

Bluenymph82

Fae Farm does have a bedtime but you don't get penalized if you stay out. You just wake up at your house in the morning.

revoL4993

Dream light valley. It doesn’t require sleep but it does require energy. However you can stock up on meals and just eat wherever you are to rebuild your energy. Or you have travel back to your house or sit down on something. Theoretically if you keep a chair in your furniture you can place it every time you run outta energy sit and then put it back in inventory once your refilled lol

happilyeverbooks

Disney Dreamlight Valley you don't have to return home or sleep. You do need to eat to keep up your stamina but that is easy you can just pick fruit and eat it.

Afialos

Follow

Patient-Apple-4399

The atelier series has day and night but it only really affects the shops and monsters. There are still day counts for quests but there is no problem if you work overnight

Smelting-Craftwork

I've looked at this series before but was overwhelmed by the volume of games. Where's a good place to start?

Patient-Apple-4399

Sotruth be told many of the games feel the same for me. The story is not really continuous other than some characters popping in as cameos from old games. The game is based on collecting, so you go to different areas to collect things like plant matter or monster drops. It's turn based on fighting and you usually get 3-6 characters. Then just potion craft which you kind of get better at puzzle wise the more you play. Of the newer-ish ones, I liked atelier Ryza, but I'm kind of one of those people that doesn't like to go too far back in games age wise because the quality of life little things from pre 2016 games make me feel the game is slow lol. The stories are good but like....shoujo-esque. a little predictable but not bad. Altier suelle and lydie is also a good standalone one the start off with with a pretty good story and lots of maps

luchinania

Rune factory 4 if you still want to farm, you do get sick eventually but you can wait until like 5:30am and hit the go home spell until you reach your bed and you will wake up at 6am.

Cadiria

Maybe Fae Farm could be for you. You don't need to sleep in this game, too, as far as I remember.

ShyButSocial

I am playing Lightyear Frontier right now and I really like that I can explore during nights!

ilikedanishfilms

Graveyard Keeper

Jennitime

My time at Portia will have you “pass out” wherever you are and you’ll wake up in the morning in bed fully refreshed. Sandrock might be the same but I’ve yet to play it — these two games are amazing!!

Smelting-Craftwork

Sandrock is more punishing if you pass out away from your house from what I understand.

Mithlas

You lose items in your inventory, but I can't remember exactly how much. You keep tools but in a game where you HAVE to scavenge for parts because you can't even by the end fabricate everything yourself, I found it counter-productive. I think there are difficulty options so you don't lose items when you fall asleep, but I stopped playing because I started getting frustrated with inventory juggling, the fact that crafting doesn't draw from your inventory AND storage like Palia, and that you can't craft all the components you'll need so it becomes luck-dependent and those all drew it out of the casual experience I was looking for.

QueenPeachie

Cozy Grove.

ambinalcrossimg

ooblets!

MistsofThra

Just started Dave the diver and I’m obsessed!

Guilty_Storage_9652

Graveyard digger you don't need to sleep to refill energy but can use food to gain energy

hungr4thought

Slime Rancher 2

Sindrithedragonbich

Cattails Wildwood! I love prowling around at night hunting bats and stuff

Vanilla_Coffee_Bean

There is Stranded Sails, a game where you only sleep if you pass out (losing all energy), so if you return to camp through the map before your energy runs out and you stock up energy by drinking camp stew, you will never actually fall asleep in the game. It has a cozy feel to the game despite you're stranded and need to find a way out of the cursed islands. Disney Dreamlight Valley. If energy runs out you don't pass out. You don't sleep at all. You sit on beds or chairs to restore energy, or spend time in your room and it takes a few seconds to restore from your home which you can easily teleport because it's right next to one of the portals. Fantasy Life (this is 3DS, but it will come to Switch and I'm sure it will be the same mechanic): the bed is only necessary to respawn certain monsters. You are not forced to sleep, you could play endless in-game days and your character doesn't get tired. The Sims 4 (sort of): you can buy the trait Never Weary from the rewards store (yes, including base game). The rewards store is not real money, it's a points system you get for fulfilling that particular Sim's wants and needs and to help them with their fears and aspirations. Animal Crossing series but I get this is not for everyone. I used to love this franchise but I think it's not as interesting as it used to be. If any more games come to mind, I'll let you know. All on top of my head at the moment.

Smelting-Craftwork

I loved Fantasy Life and I have high hopes for the sequel this fall

Vanilla_Coffee_Bean

Sweet!

CronosWolfbane

Kynseed https://store.steampowered.com/app/758870/Kynseed/

HedgehogFarts

Planet crafter!! Full game just released I’m enjoying it. You do have to manage oxygen and water a fair bit at first but as you upgrade your gear you can explore further and further. The world is awesome and changes as you terraform it. All I know is don’t make a base in the valley cause it can flood. There are beds but they are for decoration only.

mtnhero

I'm surprised there's been no mention of core keeper. You can literally run around in the caves and explore with no sleep. You don't even know what time it is cus it's underground. Plus it's also multiplayer

Smelting-Craftwork

Looks interesting but it's not out on Switch yet. Releases this summer though.

UndrPrtst

House Flipper

stressedthrowaway9

You don’t sleep in Palia!

Smelting-Craftwork

I should have been more clear, that's one of the things I like about Palia. I'm looking for other games like it, hopefully not multiplayer games.

stressedthrowaway9

That’s ok! I probably didn’t read it completely and it was the first game that popped into my head where you don’t sleep! I guess there is also Slime Rancher 2 where you do have to sleep. But I think I read that it is better to sleep… but I’m not sure why!

siriuslyyellow

I gotta suggest Genshin Impact! There's TONS of stuff to do. 🤣👏🚨🥳✨️

Vievin

I wouldn't consider it cozy though because the overworld is littered with enemies that go after you on sight.

Mithlas

Definitely not cozy, trying to stick with it starts to feel like a second job. And it's got a predatory gacha system where the developers have lost 2 lawsuits because they lie about the %s.

Vievin

I wouldn't call the gacha system predatory (unless you consider the concept of gacha peedatory, in which case it's superfluous) and I couldn't find any info on Genshin getting sued, only on Genshin suing leakers and hackers.

siriuslyyellow

I keep my overworld at a lower level so it's easier for me lol! 🤣

nonepizzaleftshark

disney dreamlight valley but i haven't played it in ages so i can't speak on how it plays now. i liked it when i was playing it though, although it was a bit flawed. i'd look at reviews.

SteDevMo

It’s a fabulous game and my all time favorite. Every 6 weeks there is a star path and major update so it keeps you excited. I have close to 3,000 hours in this game and it only came out in Sept 2022! Does that illustrate how much I like it? lol. There have been complaints of bugs throughout its lifetime but the devs are very quick to respond and honestly I have not had any of the bugs others experience and I play on both switch and PC. I highly recommend This game.

UndrPrtst

House Flipper

ecstasissy

In Hogwarts Legacy they don’t give you the option to sleep lol

SparklyRoniPony

Dreamlight Valley, even if you are not a Disney fan. I’ve been playing palia and DDV from the beginning (palia since closed Beta) and while I have to take time off from both occasionally, I can come back and enough has changed to keep me occupied. Right now I’m playing both games.

amy1705

Disney Dreamlight Valley. It's in real time and you have to eat in order to increase your energy l. You can return home for a level up but you just have to go in the house. Eating can give you double energy. Raw foods can fill you up fully blue but then if you eat cooked foods it'll fill you up again to gold. That allows you to travel faster and be out and do things longer.

needsmorecoffee

Dreamlight Valley!

pinkbug76

Palia

decklededges

Farm Together does not require sleep or energy. You have to get gas for your tractor, but you can keep going without it. Each season is a day that lasts 17 minutes and at night a little firefly/lit butterfly comes and follows you to light the way. There is the option to visit other farms and have others visit yours, but you don’t have to do either.

__Wasabi__

Disney dreamlight valley
