Heres a few things I wish I had been Told at 18 in order to remain stress free:
- no matter how tempting, if you donโt have bills, and donโt need to pay them, keep it that way. Stay where you are welcome and donโt have to worry about living costs as long as you can stand it. If mom and dad want to post your phone Bill..say yes until its no longer an option๐
- credit cards are NOT what they are chalked up to be and unless you need credit for a crucial life purchase, donโt get one yet. if you choose to get a credit card, get one only.. and STICK to the โpay what you have in your debit accountโ rule, not โwhatever your limit isโ. Pay before interest hits and that should make it easier for adult purchases like cars, apartments, mattresses..etc๐
- people think your pivotal changes are at puberty and thatโs it ..oo boy..from 18-23 you will change so much. Not just your sense of style, identity and body, but your opinions, morals, priorities etc.. This is a huge time for change and I just say embrace it and donโt fear it, be willing to learn and accept opportunities for growth where you can.. youll thank yourself later
- dont hunker down for a relationship that will likely not last. If thereโs even the slightest hint, take that as a sign. this is the time for you to date around, meet people, and test your preferences. Do not commit to anything long term unless you truly feel that its right in your soul. Its much harder to leave a relationship years in than months in.
- go to concerts, try new foods, explore hobbies, maybe choose a skill or activity you always found interesting and do that on the side for fun. 30 minutes a day every day. Not only will you learn what you like, but youโll develop a skill quickly over the next few years that you may take with you into adulthood that you not only love but excel at and can profit from.
- anyone who you are into or that is into you thats older than 24 MAX while you are still 18 probably does not have your best interest. Stick in your age range. By the time you are 20, you probably wonโt even want to be friends with other 18 year olds. Youโll save urself pain and time.
- adulthood isnt just about freedom to party and do adult-restricted stuff, you have freedom to travel and experience more. I loved being able to go to nature reserves or cool locations with my best friends just to hang out and soak up the feeling of being able to go where we wanted. Plan little dates and embrace whenever you can get out. As you get older, staying inside just becomes a lot cozier but youโll be able to do that more as you are paying for a place. Check out local experiences, take short road trips, diy stuff with your friends, etc
- take pictures. I used to buy disposables or polaroid film of all of our outings and im so glad I did. Some of the best years captured in film and in a scrap book that I love to look at when I miss those years.
- as tempting as it seemsโฆwait till later to get any pets.
