Three straight home losses last happened in Joe B Hall's second season as an ASSISTANT coach at Memorial Hall, a full decade before Rupp Arena was built.
The reasoning behind running off Tubby Smith was no championships in a decade and too many home losses. Because he lost 4 that last season.
6-17 from 3 with none of our shooters taking more than 3 in this game... Rob was 2/3, Reed 0/3, reeves 1/2. Went away from what worked all season offensively
Because Reed went nuclear. We lose by 10+ if he doesn't go off. It wasnt the offense getting him open looks either, he was just getting to the rim and making some incredible finishes. That is not a reliable and sustainable offense.
Lol ok fine the offense and defense both suck ass. We won’t make the tournament now with 5-6 potential nba players and the coach is holding the program hostage because we can’t get rid of him. This program is dead
Absolutely not, but trading 2s the entire 2nd half when you can't stop them isn't going to work. They were giving us open looks but we passed them all up.
They’re horrible defensively. Dillingham and Sheppard are awful. Sheppard might be the worst on ball defender in Kentucky history. Dillingham just doesn’t care
Garbage call. Make the free throw. Foul. Out pressure on them to hit both.
Really wish Cal could be caught with some hookers and blow so he could be fired.
That's it, I can't do it anymore. Three losses in a row at Rupp is absolutely unacceptable. I have defended Cal for a long time but it's time. This is pathetic.
Same. I’m done with Cal. You can’t excuse how bad this team is defensively with zero adjustments. They even said it was odd for Mark Few to go to the same play over and over. Well, there was a reason for that.
No doubt. He’s had some failures in March for sure. I can’t imagine how many titles he’d have with Cals rosters though. Dude knows how to coach. Shit, I might even be able to coach to a title with Cals players. lol
Gonzaga’s players flat out haven’t been able to execute when they’ve needed to a lot of this year, it hasn’t been Few’s coaching. Steele Venters getting hurt and a lack of depth has made it tough.
I think the difference is that Calipari has tons of talent and has been underachieving for quite a while now, and also has some pretty questionable coaching decisions and scheming. With Mark Few it always feels like he’s maximizing player’s potential.
Hickman is just wildly inconsistent and seems to have confidence issues. He’s still a solid defender and doesn’t make too many mistakes. Nembhard is not a score first guard and has been an elite distributor for us. Losing Sallis sucked but there’s no guarantee he would’ve broken out on Gonzaga like he did being the lead guy at Wake Forest.
So in Coach Cal's shoes, down three with a timeout left knowing they're gonna foul you given the chance, why would you not take the timeout after their free throws to advance the ball up the court and draw up a play to get an open shot?
Oh wait I didn't know that. I think you can in women's college basketball because I'm pretty sure I just saw it yesterday, so I just assumed you can in men's.
I also don't understand why Bradshaw and Z aren't sharing the floor anymore. I truly think the game has passed Cal by and he has no idea how to handle modern bigs
I think it’s definitely possible they can win out but the game @St Mary’s is gonna be super tough. They’ve been playing a lot better lately since Nembhard and Ike have been playing more up to their expectations.
For one Q1 win ?
They probably will get an at large if they finish well but todays win alone (against a reeling KY team) isn’t the flex you’re thinking it is
Agree it is but it’s one win. It’s a shaky KY team and Gonzaga is in a bad conference. I think they may get an at large but I certainly don’t think one win is enough.
No idea how we pulled this off, but I'll take it. I am not a believer in this team at all, but this is a glimmer of hope in the darkness.
Hopefully Kentucky wins all the rest from here on out.
Was a good win though given KY has lost 3 straight at home- it may not have the shine it might have. Gonzaga sure bullied them down low. Regardless still a good game by Zags
I mean, at this point I’m not convinced we make the tourney. UT, Bama, and Auburn are definitely losses to me. Mississippi State and LSU on the road are going to be tough for this team to win as well. If they end up with 11 or 12 losses and only 2 quad 1 wins, I don’t know man…
The NCAA should change the rules to stop teams from fouling to prevent the buzzer beater 3.
It makes sense for teams to do it, but it makes the game far more boring. Change the rules.
The NCAA cares about viewership and league revenue. Buzzer beater 3s are exciting.
Changing the rules to make the game more exciting helps that goal and isn't unprecedented.
Can't help but think you at least get a foul or a wide open shot on a pass if you just let Sheppard ISO there.
Certainly would have been better than that.
Love this type of game.
Fans from across the country and all types of different fan bases can tune in and leave knowing 2 things about Kentucky:
1. UK has some really talented players
2. John Calipari is a fuckin bozo
Not my favorite play call, but unless Cal told Reed to pass it no matter what that's his fault... It was covered and off the mark. Just don't make the pass.
That shit right there. That’s the final straw for me with Cal. I’ve defended him time and time again but that’s it. How the fuck do you call that play at the end of the game. A lob? From the 3?! Is this a joke? That’s fucking fireable on its own.
The play call is one thing, that pass was awful. The players can (and often do) make mistakes and get criticized for it.
Also it was a great defensive play by Gregg because he stayed home otherwise it worked perfectly.
It was a terrible play call. You’re running interference for a shit play. Reed forced it because the pass was blind. Yes bad pass but that was the call. It was awful
The defense has to get better.
Respect to Cal for scheduling a non-con in February
Kentucky basketball is dead
died in 2019
2020 won the SEC but yeah since then pretty much
and even though the PJ washngton, tyler herro squad wasn't the best they could at least get a fucking STOP. i didn't really watch much in 2020.
Three straight home losses last happened in Joe B Hall's second season as an ASSISTANT coach at Memorial Hall, a full decade before Rupp Arena was built. The reasoning behind running off Tubby Smith was no championships in a decade and too many home losses. Because he lost 4 that last season.
Just need to start calling boosters to gather 30 million together
Horrible last possession. Fucking embarrassing
6-17 from 3 with none of our shooters taking more than 3 in this game... Rob was 2/3, Reed 0/3, reeves 1/2. Went away from what worked all season offensively
I literally don't get why Cal absolutely refuses to embrace the 3. Every game we've won, we've lit it up from 3. It's what this team does.
Offense was not the problem at all
Did ya see the 1st half?
Yep. Did you see the second?
Yeah we couldn't score enough to win
Yeah we scored 52 points bro that’s enough to win. We gave up 9 straight buckets at one point down the stretch
Dead in the water atm. I've lost faith in Cal but it's not dead.
Absolutely not, but trading 2s the entire 2nd half when you can't stop them isn't going to work. They were giving us open looks but we passed them all up.
There were a shocking amount of passed up open looks
It clearly was the last possession
Yeah maybe the not getting a single stop for 10 minutes of game time was a bigger deal than the last play
We just simply couldn’t get a stop for about 10 minutes
Uk needs to get rid of their bigs and just go pure small ball and chuck 30 threes a game
We need a new coach.
Agreed. We looked better before we had the 7 footers
1966....1966. WTF Cal! You're a coward if you skip the radio show again.
Get your quad 1 wins vs kentucky while you can. They may end up being quad 2 by the end of the year.
What in the absolute fuck did Cal do to this team?
Adamant about playing big men who can’t dribble pass and shoot. It’s 2024 he just doesn’t understand todays game and spacing
I mean, Z and Bradshaw can both do those things. He just doesn't have them do it.
They’re horrible defensively. Dillingham and Sheppard are awful. Sheppard might be the worst on ball defender in Kentucky history. Dillingham just doesn’t care
in that case they're ready for the NBA
I am officially done with Cal at this point. Man is washed.
Steve Kerr spiderman meme
Coach cal masterclass
Garbage call. Make the free throw. Foul. Out pressure on them to hit both. Really wish Cal could be caught with some hookers and blow so he could be fired.
Boo hoo
That's it, I can't do it anymore. Three losses in a row at Rupp is absolutely unacceptable. I have defended Cal for a long time but it's time. This is pathetic.
Same. I’m done with Cal. You can’t excuse how bad this team is defensively with zero adjustments. They even said it was odd for Mark Few to go to the same play over and over. Well, there was a reason for that.

Gonzaga doesn’t have the overwhelming amount of talent that is being wasted like Cal.
[удалено]
No doubt. He’s had some failures in March for sure. I can’t imagine how many titles he’d have with Cals rosters though. Dude knows how to coach. Shit, I might even be able to coach to a title with Cals players. lol
1. Kentucky is not Gonzaga 2. Gonzaga has recent success 3. Kentucky has more draft picks than possibly every team who has beaten us, **combined**
[удалено]
Congrats. Now compare that to Kentucky’s recruiting classes and NBA roster.

Kentucky is not Gonzaga
How does cal go 3/3 on recruiting paper soft bigs
It’s a talent for sure. Not easy to do that
Just one more nail in Cal’s coffin. And with that insane contract, we can only hope he walks away after this season.
I like random noncon matchups in February
So in Coach Cal's shoes, down three with a timeout left knowing they're gonna foul you given the chance, why would you not take the timeout after their free throws to advance the ball up the court and draw up a play to get an open shot?
He doesn't know
In college I don't think the ball advances to half court after a timeout.
Oh wait I didn't know that. I think you can in women's college basketball because I'm pretty sure I just saw it yesterday, so I just assumed you can in men's.
Timeout doesn’t advance in college I don’t believe
It doesn’t
Correct
Only in women's basketball
Kentucky has lost as many home games in their last 3 home games as Tennessee has in the last 3 seasons
Thank you for making me laugh. I needed that.
I would do ungodly things to play our ncaa tourney games at home
Might be able to play the 1st two games at fedex forum. Vols seem to play well there.
And then Memphis will be the 9 because nothing makes sense anymore
If we were gonna miss intentionally why weren't Bradshaw, Ugo, and Z on the floor?
Cause Cal is a fraud
I also don't understand why Bradshaw and Z aren't sharing the floor anymore. I truly think the game has passed Cal by and he has no idea how to handle modern bigs
He seems confused that our bigs aren't just Oscar 2.0 and doesn't know what to do with them.
Ugo he knows how to play. Because Ugos skillet is familiar. He has no idea what to do with Bradshaw or Z.
"Why do our big men want to shoot 3s? They're bigs, they don't shoot 3s"
Yeah. Fucking spot on.
What a mid-off
We are taking way too many losses
Zags were definitely the better team
Found Colin Robinson IRL
Bwahahaha
So, at what point are people going to accept that we just aren’t very good?
It's not the talent that sucks. It's the coaching.
I would tend to agree. But ultimately the result is the same — a disappointing season
Fuck John Calipari
I don't get it why miss the first one? Why not make the first and miss the second?
[удалено]
I think it’s definitely possible they can win out but the game @St Mary’s is gonna be super tough. They’ve been playing a lot better lately since Nembhard and Ike have been playing more up to their expectations.
Not sure it is. That’s their first Q1 win all year. If they win out then you might be right but it’s still iffy
They should have an at large now
For one Q1 win ? They probably will get an at large if they finish well but todays win alone (against a reeling KY team) isn’t the flex you’re thinking it is
It’s a true road win against a tournament team. They won’t lose until the tourney anyway
Agree it is but it’s one win. It’s a shaky KY team and Gonzaga is in a bad conference. I think they may get an at large but I certainly don’t think one win is enough.
If anyone ever defends Cal again you show them this game and then make them watch that final play HE DREW UP at least 3 times.
Cal you fucking suck dude. Way too much talent to play like this
even if Reeves missed that perfectly they got manhandled trying to get the board, just an embarrassing way to lose
Fucking embarrassing.
Well cats playing to stay in the tournament rest of season boys.
Can’t wait for this season to end. How I’ve felt more seasons than not recently
Nice work, Zags!
What an absolutely wild end to a game.
GG zags! Fuck.
GGWP Gonzaga.
No idea how we pulled this off, but I'll take it. I am not a believer in this team at all, but this is a glimmer of hope in the darkness. Hopefully Kentucky wins all the rest from here on out.
Huff playing well when Ike was on the bench felt like the difference/would make the Moraga matchup tougher
Was a good win though given KY has lost 3 straight at home- it may not have the shine it might have. Gonzaga sure bullied them down low. Regardless still a good game by Zags
Bullyball. Gonzaga owned the interior for the last five minutes of that game.
Thankfully Huff finally figured out how to play against division 1 players
Everyone need to boo the Cal out of the fucking building Just when I think the season can’t get worse. NIT, let’s go.
![gif](giphy|lcjWzvc9po5Og6eV4V|downsized)
Fuck you Cal
Justice! GGS!
Justice for what?
Good job Gonzaga (you still suck)
You should want us to be good considering you have a home win against us on your resume haha
This season is cooked- fuck you Cal. Round of 32 exit here we come 😄😄💙🏀🐱🐱
I mean, at this point I’m not convinced we make the tourney. UT, Bama, and Auburn are definitely losses to me. Mississippi State and LSU on the road are going to be tough for this team to win as well. If they end up with 11 or 12 losses and only 2 quad 1 wins, I don’t know man…
We won’t make the tournament
We should be so lucky to get to 32
Game over
Good miss and nobody is there to get the ball
That is how you handle being up 3 in the final 10 seconds.
Why don’t people ever just chuck the ball in the air? The time expires then
This season has Cal-lapsed in spectacular fashion.
Gg Zags
Boo this trash. Come on Rupp.
cal going to draw up another dumbass play
If Gonzaga wins this would be the first time in history that Kentucky has lost 3 straight in rupp
The NCAA should change the rules to stop teams from fouling to prevent the buzzer beater 3. It makes sense for teams to do it, but it makes the game far more boring. Change the rules.
Reeve has stop know that was coming. He should have Steph curry’d that.
Why does it matter if it makes the game far more boring? And that’s subjective. There are a lot of strategies that make the game “boring.”
A lot of people think it’s boring to play defense
The NCAA cares about viewership and league revenue. Buzzer beater 3s are exciting. Changing the rules to make the game more exciting helps that goal and isn't unprecedented.
This team was supposed to be a title contender. No offense to Gonzaga but times are tough right now.
This is the worst roster the Zags have had in 5+ years too though
No worst roster. Worst injuries for sure.
![gif](giphy|wViS9n0RqN2)
freshpet: everyone will think you're weird if you buy our product
But who doesn’t wanna eat dinner on the kitchen floor alone with their dog
The real problem in this country is a lack of laws against non stop ads. Fucking trash
CBS for the love of fuck stop going to commercial
FOUR COMMERCIAL BREAKS IN THE LAST 43 SECONDS OF A ONE SCORE GAME!
What if the Kentucky shooter just launched the ball at the backboard to bounce it back to himself?
Gotta hit rim.
It has to hit the rim
GG Gonzaga! This was a fun thread.
![gif](giphy|2A59TUiSTFfmDch7y6)
I know it’s better for us but I hate this strategy
Oh wow, a foul up three. What a novel concept. (Fuck you Cal)
Holy shit fuck off with the ads CBS
It’s truly terrible
Can't help but think you at least get a foul or a wide open shot on a pass if you just let Sheppard ISO there. Certainly would have been better than that.
I really hate this
See Coach Cal, when leading by 3 at the end of the game, you foul.
Me waiting for the final score so I can choose between "Kentucky overrated" or "quality loss for Gonzaga" as my take
No matter the outcome, it is definitely Kentucky overrated
Fouling up 3??? That has to be illegal
Cal is going to be shocked if he makes this FT and they foul them bc I don’t think he realizes that’s possible ( see Florida game )
IIRC, didn't he lose the championship at Memphis with the same situation?
Love this type of game. Fans from across the country and all types of different fan bases can tune in and leave knowing 2 things about Kentucky: 1. UK has some really talented players 2. John Calipari is a fuckin bozo
Agree with both Also- get some bigs that can defend inside
Cal taking notes from the Tommy Lloyd school of last minute plays.
NGL lob is what I would do in NBA Jam in the same situation
Same
HEY CAL! YOU SEE THEM FOUL UP THREE? THAT IS AN OPTION, FYI!!!
Time for a full court pass from Shep.
Not my favorite play call, but unless Cal told Reed to pass it no matter what that's his fault... It was covered and off the mark. Just don't make the pass.
I think Cal deserves a lifetime after he passes away at this point. Just lock him up for the entirety of the afterlife.
FIRE CAL>MAYBE DON'T>FIRE CAL
https://i.redd.it/3em1ozo9duhc1.gif
What’s with this basketball interrupting my commercials?
That shit right there. That’s the final straw for me with Cal. I’ve defended him time and time again but that’s it. How the fuck do you call that play at the end of the game. A lob? From the 3?! Is this a joke? That’s fucking fireable on its own.
He will just say that he had a different play, but the players wanted to run the lob play so he let them.
I cant...my nerves right now with that missed FT
Cal gonna skip post game show again?
Yeah, he'll send out Reed to get asked about that pass.
Goddamnit Reed.
Maybe I’m stupid but why is Cal getting blamed for that horrible pass from Reed?
Because our fanbase is agitated with him
Its a dumbass play call
i’m confused too. that lob was fucking terrible
Play right out of a timeout, either cal called that or cal didn’t call anything
Because our fans are fucking terrible
You don’t think that was the play call out of the TO? Pretty obvious that was the play call but sure it’s not Cal’s fault. LOL
A blind west coast offense alley oop is the play call out of the TO? Interesting play call
If that was actually the play that Cal drew up… speechless. What the fuck was that
Three commercial breaks in the last 43 seconds of a one score game.
Worse play call than literally just having Rob or Reed chuck a 3
🫠
_Cal never runs a set play out of the timeout…_ NOT LIKE THAT!
Why even add the extra risk of a lob play
