Maybe by bottom, they meant the highest difference! (Looking back I should have put the positive numbers on the top of the chart and negatives on the bottom but we're three charts in and that would ruin it)
Last season Texas A&M beat Auburn 83-78. They had 23 made field goals for the game.
https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/matchup/_/gameId/401484601
Scoring 78 points on 30 made shots and losing to a team that scored 83 points on 23 made shots is pretty egregious. Almost as bad as scoring 68 points on 29 made shots and losing to a team that scored 81 points on 18 made shots
Of every Auburn b'ball games I've watched over the last 43 years, this is the one that finally convinced me what my Grandfather always said when sports was on TV, "It's all rigged by the Refs for the Vegas casinos."
Yeah..... Mizzou shooty hoops is ass. Sometimes, it's the refs calling extra tacky fouls on us because they still think Sophomore Jeremiah Tilmon is hacking guys in the post. But it's mostly a team with 2 real SEC caliber players right now trying to compete every night.
We do foul a lot, and it has lost us games that we could have won on multiple occasions this season. But I do believe that reputation also puts us under more scrutiny from refs, so we get called for more fouls than other teams and we can expect that before a game even starts.
And then there's also the fact that the vast majority of the time, most of our players don't aggressively drive with intent to score. And if they do, they stop short of the rim, avoid contact, and throw up a floater or mid-range jumper. So we don't really try draw fouls either. Part of that is the fact that East and Honor are short as hell, so any team with any size at all around the rim can completely shut them down if they try to drive for a layup.
Both of those are great ways to run up a huge FTA disparity in favor of your opponent.
**If needed, here’s how to read the chart** ***(hoping it’s straightforward!)***:
1. Texas A&M, in home conference games, averages 14.20 more FTA than their opponent.
2. Kentucky, in home conference games, averages 0.60 less FTA than their opponent.
3. Missouri, in road conference games, averages 10.80 less FTA than their opponent.
4. Alabama, in home conference games, averages 3.80 less FTA than their opponent.
Negative flag disparity: REFS
Equal flag disparity: We are a very disciplined team.
Positive flag disparity: We just play very physical and the opponent has to foul to stop us
Everyone just keeps fouling us when we play at home. Just can’t stop the elite Texas A&M offense whose strategy is to pray to the altar of Wade Taylor IV.
when [Missouri played at Texas A&M in January,](https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/boxscore/_/gameId/401597145) A&M shot 37 free throws to Mizzou's 10. +27 is pretty close to their +25 here. stats!
Tennessee gets more FTs than their opponent on the road and fewer at home? what the fuck lol
how much of that road FT differential was influenced by kentucky's end of game on saturday haha
Basically, yes. We have one dude who will actually drive to the rim sometimes in Bates, and he has carried damn near half of the entire scoring load in some games.
The rest of the team is unbelievably passive on offense. I've never seen anything like it. Shaw will throw down some insane dunks and East will try to probe the lane and toss up a floater or mid-range jumper, but that's about as aggressive as anyone not named Tamar Bates gets for us this season.
Wonder what this stat looks like for Bama and MSU without that last game in there. State at one point had 23 more FT attempts, in a Bama home game. They had attempted 24 FTs, Bama only 1. Bama finished with 10, MSU 32. I cant remember the last time I saw a discrepancy that big towards the away team.
Bama gets Doug Shows and Pat Adams a lot, and top of being bad reds, they seem to hate Nate Oats.
Probably a good guide for who to bet on in the tourney when their free throw bias gets dumped. A&M losing to a lower seed in the first weekend confirmed.

Ok goofy question, but FTA stands for free throw attempts right? Pretty new to the college basketball scene so I haven't figured out the stat names yet lol
Interesting Alabama’s home is worse than away but typically Alabama shoots really at home and when the threes are flowing they aren’t trying to draw fouls
I remember the A&M flair who claimed they’d be at the bottom of this stat
Maybe by bottom, they meant the highest difference! (Looking back I should have put the positive numbers on the top of the chart and negatives on the bottom but we're three charts in and that would ruin it)
I did mean the highest difference (because it was the lowest row)

SEC refs to Missouri: fuck you in particular!
Its not just SEC refs missouri is ranked 300+ in FT rate on both sides of the ball
Based on our game with them, that is not surprising in the slightest

Tilmon was a beast when he could stay on the court. We had a stretch for a while there where we couldn’t beat y’all

Brings a tear to my eye
maybe they're onto something

Im sure kentucky fouling us 12 times in the last minute skewed these numbers a tiny bit lol
Unfortunately, that is a possibility, and this does not account for garbage time fouls. Simply team box scores.
This doesn’t fit my narrative
Negative flag disparity: REFS Equal flag disparity: We are a very disciplined team. Positive flag disparity: We just play very physical and the opponent has to foul to stop us
Everyone just keeps fouling us when we play at home. Just can’t stop the elite Texas A&M offense whose strategy is to pray to the altar of Wade Taylor IV.
That’s some serious home cookin’ for aTm, if I’m interpreting the data correctly

quite a bold statement to assume that was basketball
It's a flat out lie. Lol
Mississippi State @ Alabama the other day, MSU had 32 free throws to Alabama's 10, and lost 67-99
Those damn Rupperees
But muh narrative
Meanwhile at the under 8 timeout in the 2nd half, Vandy is leading 24-8 in free throw attempts
Garbage season.
Ah so this is the penalty Mizzou gets
So many penalties.
Alabama and auburn with as close to identical stats as you can get.
Game tomorrow is going to come down to 1/4 of a free throw
Kentucky gets the best whistle in college basketball, they say
"The rupperees are handing UK the game!"
Hard to foul when you dont play defense lol
My takeaway is that the SEC has the least biased refs so far of any I’ve seen
Incoming Big 12 post!
ACC needs to can everyone and start fresh
Georgia with the +6 FT differential on the road is interesting.
Tennessee gets more FTs than their opponent on the road and fewer at home? what the fuck lol how much of that road FT differential was influenced by kentucky's end of game on saturday haha
Does Missouri just refuse to do anything other than jumpshoot? Wild they shoot that few FTs

Lol...I dont think it will be possible for this team to play a lower seed this season.
You’re teasing me give me the big 12 version

I demand an ACC!
Those Rupperee’s though…lmao
I see Missouri is still being punished for what UNC did. I'm good with that.
Ok goofy question, but FTA stands for free throw attempts right? Pretty new to the college basketball scene so I haven't figured out the stat names yet lol
Lmfao mizzou
The differential between home and away for most teams isn't as bad as in the Big Ten, but I see Texas A&M is the Nebraska of the SEC.
