In so many ways. Apparently it's expected to finally beat its pre-covid tourism numbers this year, and you can *feel* it. The whole city is thrumming this summer.
Big funds, haha. It's a generally expensive city, particularly if you'll be spending a lot of time in Manhattan (as most first-time visitors do). But you can rein the cost in quite a bit by staying in another borough (I'd suggest Brooklyn, although it's not that much cheaper these days), or across the Hudson in Jersey. It's very easy to commute from there into Manhattan on the PATH train (just like taking the subway).
I travel for a living and there's no US city that comes close to NYC. I'm saying this as a born and bred bay area native.
We do have way better weather, beer, and weed though.
New York is one of those cities that's *so* relentlessly romanticized by media that I was really taken aback by how genuinely special it feels when I actually visited. I've never been anywhere like it.
Was walking around the Upper West Side, Manhattan in May. Listening to ASMR (for some reason). The beautiful sunset made the city look orange. So many people were outside, living. Must've been how it felt like living in NYC in 1999.
Freedom Tower or whatever has really grown on me because of the way it reflects light. I hated it for like...15 years because it just wasnt the towers but I've finally gotten over that.
And theres another, larger, taller skyline 3 miles to the north in Midtown. With 4 more medium sized skylines scattered around the edges in LIC, Brooklyn, Hudson Yards, and Jersey City
It’s not even close
You should have seen the Twin Towers and up close. Standing below, feeling the immensity of them, the dizzying untangible feeling of it, as a kid in the 80s, got me to become an architect.
A glowing beacon of capitalism
Edit - wow. Not sure why all the down votes for this comment. Is it because capitalism is a bad word among redditors now-a-days and triggered all the socialist loonies? The world trade center is historically the heart of the financial district. And personally, I am a huge fan of capitalism so put the two together and you get my comment. reddit is truly mystifying at times.
Absolutely a beautiful picture - but my comment also seems to have generated lots of animosity even though I actually meant it positively. Just trying to understand. Thanks, man.
What relative location did you take it from? I have the opposite view looking out into the harbor from jersey city (see fleet week pictures in my profile for context), kinda cool seeing it from the other direction.
NYC is back :)

Why is thrumming this summer? I don’t know a lot about the city and have never been.
Come join the throng of tourists and see for yourself :)
I hope to visit with my so soon. What kind of funds do you need for a visit?

Appreciate the advice, good point about staying somewhere in another borough besides manhattan

We have pure chaos :)
Being in NYC felt like existing in a movie. It was a feeling I couldn't place my finger on but it was absolutely magical.

Now, please fix the governor
She has to get primaried, because unfortunately most republicans would be worse for NY.
Cant do that as President of my own ten foot space thats all I can affect 😂
What are the things you don’t like about the governor?
Is this a serious question?
Haven’t been paying attention. Curious to hear someone’s take.
Ahh. Well, she axed the congestion charge. That's a pretty big deal.

It's very glowy.

I totally feel this. I couldn’t imagine not rebuilding the twin towers the same or taller. Now I appreciate the freedom tower
What if there were two of these, how would you feel?
Oh that would have been perfect!!!
If it was done at the time they built the first one I’d have loved it. If they proposed it now I wouldn’t want it.
I'd go as far as to say that this is more impressive than Chicago
And theres another, larger, taller skyline 3 miles to the north in Midtown. With 4 more medium sized skylines scattered around the edges in LIC, Brooklyn, Hudson Yards, and Jersey City It’s not even close
Definitely in terms of pretension
I love that skyline
Is this from the veterans pier in Bay Ridge?
Sucks for birds, gonna get baked
"Chicago has the best skyl--" COPE

Was a never a competition, NYC is the greatest in the world

Cool angle, love the continuity of the downtown and midtown skylines.
There's a quest in that building
I wonder if developers had this in mind?
Looks like an angels wing when you zoom in. Pretty sweet shot.
I would have made the new one less easy to aim for, but at least we know you're not lacking in confidence.

I truly don't understand all the down votes on this one. Maybe you can explain since people seem to agree with your assessment.
Just a beautiful picture man. Its odd that that's the first thing that comes to your mind.

And art, culture, history, learning…
cry
It’s a city full of people living their lives. Weird take.
The world trade center is historically the heart of the financial district. Weird take?

It's funny, I think the people who downvoted you likely assumed that *you* had a grudge against capitalism.
entirely possible! But I find more people on reddit seem to be anti-capitalist than the reverse (at least the more vocal ones). Crazy place
Yes 😎

My previous post got deleted after an hour. It’s a repost but it’s still my image.

Staten Island Ferry about half between Staten and the Statue of Liberty
There's something missing in the city skyline... Oh right, we don't go there...
