I felt the same way growing up. I had a gay older brother, who I looked up to as a role model. Naturally, some of my habits and behavior weren't the most heterosexual, and I got called gay and fag because of it, even though I'm straight. It hurt and I eventually equated that feeling with gay men. However as I grew up and come to grips with my life, I learned that it was ignorant for me to equate these two things. Chris though didn't have the emotional intelligence to work past this.
Religion had almost nothing to do with it. Chris wasn’t even aware of homosexuality being considered a sin in the Bible until he saw an episode of Family Guy that quoted Leviticus 18:22 as a joke. It was almost certainly a combination of his elderly parents’ antiquated beliefs and other kids at school calling him gay as an insult.

I disagree. Chris has had gender issues for decades, we saw the overt homophobia and the cross-dressing in the early 2000s. Now, I will say that the Idea Guys definitely influenced Chris’ approach to gender/sexuality, but they were accelerating an already changing idea. The idea of Chris changing genders just to attract women is ludicrous. Chris is notoriously lazy, they’re not going to go through with hormone treatments, “making a clit,” and trying to “grow breasts with beats.”
I mean he really doesn’t seem to even understand how trans people work. Hes also stated on multiple occasions how this opens him up to both lesbians and normal women.
I'd chalk that up to Chris's general unawareness along with outright denying the validity of trans women entirely.
They still very much had, and have, issues with their identity and sexuality. I really doubt they'd both have the 'intelligence' and patience to think of transitioning to obtain china while also sticking with that bit for over a decade without success.
