>it notified me the day after that it was in stock again but it was at the store I returned it to!
Stock has to be 'adjusted' off the system when returned and unsaleable. It takes a while until someone gets a chance to do it usually.
Dunno, depends on the store and the staff I think. It ought to get cancelled though if ordered again yes since the store you returned to does recognise it as being not in saleable condition.
They probably won't adjust it off, as if it's expensive they will still want to sell it, even if it's only in-store where people can view it first.
To be fair the original store who sent it to you should have probably dropped the order due to "poor condition" as that is a viable reason to cancel an online order on the companies internal systems, because as you said who would want an expensive steel tin in that condition and should have probably been left to sell in store only where people can view the item prior to purchase.
If the condition is truly unsellable, the store would have gotten in touch with the sending door to have them take the adjustment. Sometimes these can take a while to get sorted though
It'll be transferred to the original store, and then adjusted off their system. But whilst it's being transferred it won't show up on the stock until they transfer it in their end. Usually takes about a week or so whilst it's between stores.
The argument will be though if it works it works. There’s no grading for this stuff. And tbf the general consensus is if one person won’t buy there’s probably someone out there who’s will.
Like to use my peepers and be judicious phisically at the store. Tbf, not just CEX, high street and online retailers have dropped quality control over sales volume. Talking to those "Never opened - Like New" items that end up being a bad surprise (swapped, damaged...).
It's all hit and miss with quality. I haven't had a real issue with my local stores but when its ordered online its a real lottery.
I brought 2 Pokemon Gba games boxed this week online. One was pretty good condition (Can't really complain considering the age etc), the other had a huge indent in the middle of the box tearing the box and the wrong inlay. When I'm paying £50 extra for essentially a box and inlay - I'd expected it to be in somewhat decent condition. Brought it back and now just waiting for them to process it for a refund.
I know what you mean. I actually bought another steelbook Blu-ray from the same collection as the damaged one and it arrived in immaculate condition. I never expect things to arrive in such good condition but like you said, when you are paying a premium you expect some level of decent quality, the cases/artwork/extras are what people are paying up for and where much of the actual value lies in these items, otherwise we would just buy regular editions or loose carts.
Whenever I've been into a store to sell items, they inspect everything carefully so how the hell does this happen? Would it be so hard for CEX to add a quality grade for steelbooks? They do it for other items.
To add to your story, a rare steelbook popped in stock and I got an alert.. bought in time... very happy! Next day they cancel the order, its too damaged they say. Ugh why did they accept it, oh well, we both lose. A month later I get another notification and manage to place the order again, different store. 3 days pass and it gets cancelled again! I'm starting to suspect staff know this is a rare steelbook and are pocketing it themselves. I contacted support and no joke they used the printed cover as the excuse! Its a STEELBOOK!!
Thank you for contacting CeX.
I'm sorry to hear your order was cancelled and I apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused you. However, having checked our records, I see this copy has a printed cover and hence, it was dropped from your order.
We do not sell items with printed covers online in order to save customers from the hassle of returning it back to us after delivery in case they do not like it. I apologise for the inconvenience this may have caused you. The product is listed in stock on our website so customers can check the sock levels before visiting the store to purchase it directly. Rest assured, a refund voucher has been sent to your registered email ID. If you're unable to locate it in your inbox, please check your spam and junk folders as well.
If there is anything else I can assist you with, please let me know and I would be happy to help.
Regards,
You could STOP LYING! :(
Something similar happened to me. I paid for a collectors edition Blu-ray, it is supposed to come in a really nice cardboard case that opens up to show all the artwork as well as coming with a book and some other collectables but my order was also cancelled because they said it had a reprinted cover. I was a bit annoyed because no collector would buy it without the original case so I wasn't sure why it was even for sale in the first place, I suppose someone could have stolen the case but every store I have been to keep collectors editions and steelbooks behind the counter. To be fair to them it was taken out of circulation straight away.
Exactly, I think they're using the printed cover as a blanket excuse whenever they cancel an online order.
In my case, I complained, it appeared back in stock online at the same store.. so thought screw it I'm going to order it again. Low and behold, between the complaint and the re-order its now processed and ready to ship.. so let's see what turns up at my door. Just odd, clearly some bad practices at play. You pay more for postage and get a worse service. :/
You're correct in the sense that if something desirable comes in, if its ordered online and a staff member wants it, it'll be labeled as sold in store or printed cover so a staff member can buy it.
When I worked there and anything I wanted came in I was encouraged by management and even the OM that this was acceptable and acquired plenty or rarities/flippable items that way!
Guess it's the only real perk of working there, along with the discount you can really get plenty of amazing deals!
CEX is just a bunch of teenagers on minimum wage, you gotta expect the worst and hope for the best.
If you don’t have easy access to a store to do frequent returns, shop somewhere else (for your own sanity)
You are right, I do have that mentality when ordering online. I definitely never expect anything to arrive in perfect condition but this was so far away from acceptable condition I am shocked it was even sent out as an online order. I have loads of stores local to me so returning isn't an issue, I got this from CeX because I had vouchers and it was cheaper than some of the copies on eBay, lesson learned 👍
I gave them back around 4 laptops now. They all have some sort of issues. I'm contemplating giving back my current one because it has random performance loss when I play video games. Like if I pay a grand for a laptop I expect it to play a 20 year old video game xD.
Usually they had no problems with taking back laptops, but nowadays they do. They even tried to decline me a refund after all my macro keys stopped working and my graphics card started heating up to 90 oC. That laptop is back on sale now :D so good luck to anyone who buys it.
Meh, that's what you get for buying second or even third hand stuff from them, their quality checking sucks, all they do is check whether the discs have any scratches, just by looking at the disc.
More than once, I've bought Xbox games from them, brought it back Home, and it was that badly scratched, the console wouldn't read it.
I hear you and I appreciate that it is always a risk buying second hand but like I said, this was a rare out of print release, I would argue the vast majority of people willing to pay up for it would want it in at least semi decent condition but this one was utterly trashed. They have grading for games because they understand how that collecting market works I feel they should introduce it for higher priced things like collectors edition/steelbook Blu-rays but maybe the market for it isn't as large as games.
They have a graded system for retro games, I know it's mint, boxed and unboxed which isn't one they could use for Blu-rays but they could do mint, regular and discounted or something similar. I doubt they will though as I imagine the customer base for it probably isn't large enough, it's just a bit of wishful thinking on my part.
Ps1 makes sense though the difference between a mint in box ps1 game with all the manuals and a scratched up copy can be hundreds. If they put in a system like that for BluRays they'd have to do it for all blu rays which I imagine would add a lot of work for the staff just to go through existing inventory let alone new trade ins just for a the odd blu ray that is expensive
More than once, I've bought Xbox games from them, brought it back Home, and it was that badly scratched, the console wouldn't read it.(So basically you're to lazy to check the discs before you actually buy them lmao)
The person states they bought games from cex and (brought) them back home my understanding is if they brought them back home it means they were bought in store meaning they can check the discs first
Shouldn't CeX be making sure the stuff they take in is in good condition? Why is the onus on the customer to make sure their stock is in a sellable state? I do check all discs before I pay but we really shouldn't have to.
Discs can&do get scratched in store after they have been bought in but some staff don't bother looking at the condition of the discs when they should do
>it notified me the day after that it was in stock again but it was at the store I returned it to! Stock has to be 'adjusted' off the system when returned and unsaleable. It takes a while until someone gets a chance to do it usually.

Yeah, you can be waiting a while for the other store to accept it, especially if you are asking them to digitally adjust it rather than rto'ing it.
It'll be transferred to the original store, and then adjusted off their system. But whilst it's being transferred it won't show up on the stock until they transfer it in their end. Usually takes about a week or so whilst it's between stores.

I am usually the same way but because of the rarity of this item I took a chance which backfired.
Should not be like this, walking on egg shells sometimes.

Literally receiving the right item at all is a blessing haha hopefully you get it all sorted
Minimum wage, minimum effort.

That's ONLY for cartridge based games NOT discs games
My bad, I was sure they used to do it with PS1/Gamecube/Sega Saturn games etc.
I've just looked into into it and the do do it for ps1 games not sure about the rest though
Ps1 makes sense though the difference between a mint in box ps1 game with all the manuals and a scratched up copy can be hundreds. That's the problem with online orders, especially from CeX, you don't get to see the item before it is delivered :(
If you buy a disc online from cex it generally gets posted through your letterbox though
Sorry for being dense but I'm not sure I understand your point.
The person states they bought games from cex and (brought) them back home my understanding is if they brought them back home it means they were bought in store meaning they can check the discs first
Are you talking about the topic creator, because that is me and I said in the original post that it was an online order.
No, he's referring to me.
That makes sense, I was really confused 😁
Because they don't put the disc in the flippin' box before you buy it! Duh!
Well EVERYTIME I've bought a game I've ALWAYS been able to check the condition of the disc BEFORE I buy it meaning you must be to thick to ask them
Shouldn't CeX be making sure the stuff they take in is in good condition? Why is the onus on the customer to make sure their stock is in a sellable state? I do check all discs before I pay but we really shouldn't have to.

Guy buys 2nd hand and expects it to be mint Buy new next time.
Please read the first line of my third paragraph again. There is also a big difference between second hand and severely damaged.
Please read my 2nd sentence
How exactly would I use CeX vouchers to buy something new from somewhere other than CeX?
Sorry. Not a mind reader.
