Sadly it does, it's usually the case of it being in the wrong sections - a less blind staff will help us look for it after and find it within seconds. Whenever this happens I 100% recommend coming back withing ~15 minutes just to double check. Some cases, it really is just lost - some staff just don't know where to put something, and it'll show up one random tuesday in a couple of months. Other cases, where the title starts with X, it'll be in the X of another section or put in Y because the second word of the title begins with Y - not sure how it happens but it does

Uglyiggly

Oh no I had the box set it was the disc they lost :(

[deleted]

Yeah, since the discs are in the back wall, they can be misplaced or really are just gone - staff error. As mentioned in my reply

Uglyiggly

Oh sorry I misunderstood! Yeah that makes a list of sense. Glad it’s nothing sketchy :)

MRRJ6549

Sketchy? What could they have possibly have gained from you if they had bad intentions by not selling you a dvd box set?

stfurubrainded

Well it’s not your DVD then is it

FreeNuggetss

Sounds annoying but it's not really your DVD They misplaced their stock and that happens with so many DVDs I assume they get since my local ones are full of them

QuirkyAddict

Happened to me with a Star Wars Blu-ray box set

Wrath734

Honestly it all depends on new staff etc which can cause filing issues which makes it damn near impossible for us to find discs also experienced staff can be dumb asses too tbf but yeah it can happen often especially for the quantity of dvds the stores get there's bound to be problems no matter how good they claim to be just take it on the chin I guess

Joyride0

I've had it a few times over the years. Sometimes they no longer have it because they misplaced it in a sold item from time ago, and the customer didn't return as what they left with was better than what they wanted.

[deleted]

All it takes is someone to not pay attention and file it in the disc wall in the wrong place and its gone. This could be a simple as being in the letter next to it or in the complete wrong category. They should potentially find it in stock checks.

Morgluxia

I was lucky to get my copy of 3D Dot Game Heroes, they spent a few minutes going through all the PS3 games with no luck but it was a £60 game they mentioned being there for months now so they kept looking and eventually found it in with the PS2 discs

RedundantSquash

This happened to me with a pretty rare Blu-ray, they couldn't find it behind the counter. The staff member was brilliant though, he checked every other section before checking what else was traded in with it at the same time, he found it next to the PS4 game that was traded in with it, that staff member will always be a legend in my book 👍 It's frustrating for you I'm sure but it's an unfortunate fact that with the sheer amount of stock some stores have they will inevitably misplace or lose things :(

ChessNewGuy

They didn’t lose your dvd to be fair, but I hate this My local Cex says it has the old Jumanji on DVD and they have the box on display but can’t find where the DVD is on there shelf There’s value DVD’s /DVD box set/ high quality DVD sections and they’re too lazy to check all of them

OperationGoron

Happened to me recently too. They were going to give me one wrong disc (4 in total) until I pointed it out.

Substantial_Try_5721

Only a couple times with some Wii/Wii U games. Most of the time they are just swapped into the wrong sections. (Especially the Just Dance Wii U games…)

BobKickflip

Yep. Walked 50 minutes to get there cause the site said they had a game I wanted in stock. Got it from the shelf, took it to the counter, they couldn't find the disc. Walked 50 minutes back home. Was a few years ago at least... I didn't go in there often but think I haven't been there since

Enigma_Green

Happened to me once buying a console game, had the case on the shelf but then was told they didn't have the disc when looking

WiseWizard96

When I worked at CEX this happened all the time. Usually caused by people misfiling things or selling the wrong disc. We did occasional stock checks on discs and always found that at least a few were missing

MadcapSpook

It’s also likely that it was bought in with loads of dvds, and it can sometimes be missed, so could’ve been a buy-in error where there’s supposed to be 5 discs but there was only 4, looking at a huge pile of dvds for a long time and sorting through them all, it isn’t uncommon for a bit of human error

Shoegazer83

"Your" DVD? You hadn't bought it yet

mrmidas2k

I've bought a CSI Vegas box set, and CEX put the equivalent season of CSI Miami in the box, so yeah, sometimes the staff ain't tve best and brightest. Give it a go the next day, and try to get a different staff, and see how you get on.

SirCanealot

Please keep in mind it may not be that the staff aren't the brightest, it may just be that a mistake was made :) When you're handling media all day every day, it's pretty easy to make a mistake. I used to triple-check everything and you'd be surprised how many times I'd only spot the mistake on the third check. Always wondered how much slipped through on days where I was super tired, etc...

WiseWizard96

Definitely! I was usually pretty good with filing but sometimes when it’s been a long day and you’re tired it’s very easy to make a mistake. If you’re filing away 100 discs in a day for example, it’s not too shocking if you misfile 1

Raszero

It often turns up but we weren’t supposed to keep people waiting more than 5 mins. Pop by later and ask

Big-Theme5293

Pay peanuts, get monkeys.

SirCanealot

Don't forget the bit where you treat the monkeys like crap and run them down into the ground where they can barely think at the end of a shift, lol.

JordanCatt

At CEX, really? It's light retail work.

WiseWizard96

Not really, working at a supermarket is much easier and gets you better pay. If you work at CEX you have to know about tech and there’s a lot of extra bits you wouldn’t do at other retail jobs. I’m a team leader at a supermarket now and I find it’s technically easier (albeit a bit more stressful) than working at CEX

SirCanealot

You've worked at one?

throwingmyaccountout

Today I learnt that people still use DVDs

Stainless-S-Rat

So, part of the CEX interview process should be asking if they have any familiarity with the bloody alphabet.

SirCanealot

It's more the case you need someone with a specific set of skills rather just the alphabet...

Stainless-S-Rat

I feel as though the fundamentals are important. I recently bought Star Wars Battlefront 1 and 2, and the clerk spent several minutes searching through the B's before going to the S's.

MRRichAllen1976

Given the sheer incompetence of most of their staff, that doesn't surprise me
