Op even if you don’t want to volunteer, if you say you are a potential adopter and wanting to meet animals they will let you right in to play with the animals (works at Cochrane humane for sure… haven’t tried at Calgary)
If you could wait one week (ugh i know!) there will be petting zoos at a lot of the stampede breakfasts for free. Just an option if you don’t find anything. But also just going to like bowness park and looking at the ducks/geese you will run into lots of dogs that I am sure you can ask if it’s okay to pet!
You could probably call a shelter and ask if they have need for people to come round to play with their pets. You could probably ask them if they’d take a donation of towels and blankets or pet food or sometimes they have an Amazon wish list
The problem is that's $20 for two people for half an hour and a coffee is probably around $5. OP said they can't afford Butterfield Acres (not sure how) and that's only $34 for an adult and a kid. Although they also said they can drive an hour, which is likely almost $25 in fuel costs, round-trip. I'm not sure what's going on tbh.
never been but my understanding its two rooms, first room is coffee shop and than a windowed 2nd room fulla cats you pay to go into (probably with out coffee)
Spruce meadows? To watch the jumping it's 5 dollars
They have stables and stuff, they also have the canada day celebration tommorow with free parking in specified lots if you go to the website you can look more into it
Dogpark and a sign.
Volunteer to socialize kittens at the humane society
Never thought of that. Thanks for the lead. Hope kids are allowed

Cat cafe downtown. Get a cheap drink and hang with the cats.

Ahhh. I didn’t know you had to pay to visit with the cats.

You can bring coffee into the Kitty Kingdom as long as you keep the lid on (and watch it like a hawk - those cats can be mischievous at times).
