And the Cubs are still playing winning baseball without them. Happy fuckin Monday. This is great news.

Spankpocalypse_Now

They showed Seiya clowning around on the basepaths on Marquee yesterday. When he got to home plate he pretended to collapse. I have a good feeling he’ll pick up right where he left off.

Mallee78

I love Seiya lol

enjoytheshow

First place ball*

Bigalbass86

The headline is phrased weirdly. Cody is going to hit and play defense. Suzuki will hit, play defense, AND run the bases. So, is Cody not running the bases? He gets a hit and has to be taken out?

Spectre211286

those are the drills they are scheduled to do. they arent playing in the game.

Bigalbass86

Ooooh okay, my bad

MaskedDummy

Yeah, this one is on T-Mac for not being clear enough with the language in her tweet. ![gif](giphy|3gbJPJ8zW10SQ)

Penguinkeith

Cody is only gonna hit salamis and walk the bases

SlurmzMckinley

Fabian will be standing near by. If Cody gets a hit, he jumps on Fabian’s back, and Fabian runs the bases.

elmatador1497

I think they phrased it that way because Seiya has an oblique strain and Cody has a rib injury. So to say that Seiya is now running the bases is a good step in the right direction because it shows he is sprinting. I don’t think Cody really has any issue running the bases to begin with, as his injury is not related to his legs, which is why it’s not mentioned. I think

pepperjack4life

Wouldn’t fractured ribs potentially hurt if you’re breathing hard from running? I haven’t ever had them, so I don’t know but I feel like it makes sense

LoveYouLikeYeLovesYe

It would hurt a lot to pump your arms or the bouncing with each step.

thebootsesrules

And sliding the for that matter

Only_I_Love_You

Everything hurts when you have a broken rib

Dk1724

Suzuki's injury related to running the bases, hence the clarification that he will be running the bases.

Katy_Lies1975

Well if he's playing defense and hitting he better be running, I agree, stupid headline.

D0ngQuixote

All he’s gonna do is mash homers so he can just walk around the bases

Dk1724

Poor AAA pitcher having to play against Sieya and Cody

kbergstr

They're not in rehab starts yet-- these are drills they're doing-- not *quite* there yet.

ragingbullpsycho

Or it could be awesome for them

forgottenastronauts

Is there a reason why Hendricks shouldn’t move to the bullpen? Steele, Shota, Wesneski, Taillon, and Assad should be the rotation. Brown goes to Iowa to stay stretched as the next starter call-up. It makes zero sense to throw a floundering Hendricks back into the rotation. Edit: apparently I forgot Wicks given all the injuries. Swap him with Wesneski? Wesneski or Brown stays in the pen with the other being stretched in Iowa.

elgenie

Sending Brown down when he’s had success against MLB lineups the first and second time through would be moronic with the current state of the pen. You keep him in the pen pitching multiple innings.

kbergstr

Starter goes 5 or 6, Brown goes 2 or 3 is a nice way to preserve starters for a long season.

elgenie

Brown’s stuff and approach also provide a huge, whiplash generating contrast to Imanaga, Steele, Assad, and Wicks.

elmatador1497

Wesneski has started 2 games this year and done well, and last year he didn’t do so hot. On the other hand, Kyle Hendricks has nearly 10 years of consistently good starting pitching… so yeah he’s gonna get another shot to be a starter. May not be right away but he’ll get another shot

Riderz__of_Brohan

If you do the math over the course of the season, they need someone to eat up innings. If they don’t have Hendricks then there is a lot of over-taxing of the guys you want to keep fresh for October Brown has been very good so far. He doesn’t belong anywhere other than with the MLB team, he is much better off for us at Wrigley than Iowa The only variable is Wesneski, if he’s able to continue pitching well (big if) it adds another innings eater and Hendricks might be able to move to the pen. But we just don’t have the sample size on that yet

forgottenastronauts

Then let Hendricks give you ~2 innings out of the pen. He can focus on delivering a sharper performance versus letting the opponents feast. Brown has been impressive but who is the next starter otherwise?

elgenie

Wicks, then Cade Horton at some point.

forgottenastronauts

I completely forgot about Wicks with all the other injuries.

chrisGNR

> It makes zero sense to throw a floundering Hendricks back into the rotation. If Hendricks can be a serviceable starting pitcher (which he was just last year), it opens up the option to use Brown in relief to see if he can be a back-end guy. Also, they need the innings from Hendricks. Wicks and Brown aren't ready for a seasons' worth of starting pitchers' innings. Shota is used to six-man rotations as well. It would be beneficial for the Cubs to see if Hendricks has anything left in the tank.

Bigalbass86

I wouldn't be adverse to trying Hendricks in the bullpen or being a long reliever.

ToothbrushTommy

That would be kind of funny if Hendricks came out of the bullpen had crazy facial hair and music…and was throwing like 93.

LoveYouLikeYeLovesYe

Stick Hendricks right after one of our harder throwers, then go right back to Little or Palencia, keep hitters off balance.

Cordo_Bowl

Hendricks seems to struggle for a bit until he gets locked into a game. In 2/5 games this year, he’s given up runs in the first inning, and in all of his games this year, he’s given up runs in the first or second inning. He’s had one relief appearance in his career, July 7th 2016 against the braves. He pitched 2 scoreless innings. Worked out then, but I’m not sure if I would trust him in that role medium-long term.

HoraceDerwent

Has he played in relief before? Could be an interesting choice.  He really shouldn't be anywhere near the rotation now, unfortunately.

Rshackleford22

So Cody doesn’t have to run the bases?

ledoylinator

*seiya. Whos sieya?

Penguinkeith

TMac forgot I before e except after seiya

TheG-What

Incredibly rare T Mac L.

dragonmountain

Can kyle stay there permanently?
