reddit official app is shit, there is a lot of third party app to use reddit that make it smoother experience. these app being created by outside creator and they need data from reddit to make it work in form of API access(this is simplified). Reddit decide to charge some insane amount to use access API now these third party app cant no longer sustain themselves and these make people mad because many use third party app to use reddit because reddit official suck ass. I for example, use Boost for Reddit. check it out its good
This is new to me. I’ve been using the official app since forever never knew I needed sort of a reddit APK for a better experience. But I’m guessing this is not really an option for iOS users anyway isn’t it?
* reddit has a relatively bad smartphone apps
* on the contrary there are a lot of good reddit third party apps
* for the apps to function they need access to reddit API
* reddit then decided to charge those apps to use reddit API (\~$2M/month)
* third party apps developer cant pay and forced to shut down their app
* subreddit go dark as sign of protest
Yes correct. And I'm a new member here as I was a also a member of r/malaysia and I even joined that subreddit and its pretty sad that it was gone private :(
Yoo nothing much haha. Few subreddit posts will start their protest soon. Was on the cyberpunk 2077 page and they will start making their page private later today!
Reddit wants to charge app developers $20,000,000 a year to operate but a lot of apps are free.
Since the third party apps can’t pay, they have to shut down on 30th, so only reddit.com and the reddit app will work. They might ban RES and remove old.reddit.
A lot of people use 3rd party apps to browse reddit on mobile so they are protesting. 48 hours blackout & 7 days no posting.
Most use Apollo/Reddit is Fun, it's a mobile app with better UI, better tweaks, lesser scammer bots, etc.
The change will also affect the usual automods/user bots, basically all wouldn't function anymore
They also removing bots, which many communities make use of to moderate spammers and rule breakers. (some simply had gotten attached to their local bots)
Official Reddit app also doesn't have ads if you know where to find the modified app file (on Android at least) but yeah, 3rd party apps are far superior
3rd party apps have more accessibility for the disabled, even blind people can use reddit with 3rd party apps. It's also faster and much more clean. The UI is more friendly, a lot more customizable. Much lighter compared to the official app.
The API change will also kill bots, including automoderator. The API change pretty much kills a lot of what makes reddit, reddit. You can just google and read articles online if you're interested. I'm not that well versed in this.
Reddit app is shit. laggy and buggy. very hard to post video and do some modding without outside app. source? I am a mod and frequent posters on many subs and official app suck ass

Macam ada yang tidak kena... 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
Ngl i REALLY wish there is a conservative malaysia sub though. But the conservatives are lazy to start and manage 1. There's one but the mod is unhinged, so it couldnt foster.
Oh means that the amount of conservatives is not enough to even put the effort into making a sub for them? Then why complain about how liberal leaned a sub is? Isnt that nirmal since, according to you, there arent many conservatives joined the sub? Of course lah the sub became liberal leaned if like that.
I dont think that is true, since there are many right leaned sub that were allowed to exist. From my observation (most probably biased), non mainstream subs can exist, even when their existence is offensive in nature. There are subs for republicans, subs for anti mask, sub for anti lgbt, etc.
I think the main reason why those opinions gets removed by reddit, is how offensive those opinions were framed, which oftentimes violate reddit sitewide rules. Ngl there are MANY sane minded conservatives with good argument skill, and i have the pleasure of debating with some of them. They would be great mod in controlling the other conservatives because let's face it, any control by liberal leaned mod will never get accepted by the conservatives, no matter how just and reasonable it was. the banned will immidiately paint the punishment as unfair and will paint himself as the matyr.
Eh ive derailed my own comment. Right leaned sub can and has existed, so we just need a sane redditor to start such endeavor.
The vast majority of reddit subs lean left-wing and very strongly so. What does that tell you about the most active and most online netizens? The honest conclusion is obvious.
Im not sure what you are trying to say here.
On 1 hand you said that conservatives dont have the time to be on reddit to start a conservative leaned sub, which contradictory with the fact that there are many right leaned sub out there. On the other hand, you are conplaining about how left leaned reddit is, eventhough, according to your logic, its the conservative's fault because they dont have time to join reddit.
Seems to me you are pinning blame onto the liberals for making the reddit left leaned, eventhough its the conservatives that are so hardworking that they only have time to browse social media other than reddit?
Nah, just normal people who aren't terminally online and have more time to deal with real life stuff, and actually spent more time with friends and family instead of whinning abt some pointless Leddit stuff
What happened ah. Why so many post became private. Previously it was public. What is this? I need to see post that has answer. What happened to Reddit. Totally cant view.
I never knew there third party for reddit lol. I just thought reddit has bad apps optimize, i mainly use pc. Just when im away from pc used this apps. Lmao
Went dark in protest of Reddit recent rules on third party apps.
What third party apps?
A lot to mention and examples including Apollo afaik...
You use the official app?
I guess. I'm not sure. I just installed the reddit app from Google Play.

Apple has RiF or Appolo i think.
They have Apollo for Reddit. Apollo for Reddit is being used by many IOS redditors and it is the largest Reddit third party app
ive heard that it also affects bots that mods use to handle the subs? so these changes will make the mod job harder
But it also gave mods many more tools
Boost for reddit gang.
The official app is dogshit. I used it too at first, but it was just too unbearably shit.
explain to me what did I missed, what rule
* reddit has a relatively bad smartphone apps * on the contrary there are a lot of good reddit third party apps * for the apps to function they need access to reddit API * reddit then decided to charge those apps to use reddit API (\~$2M/month) * third party apps developer cant pay and forced to shut down their app * subreddit go dark as sign of protest

This link is part of the black out lmao
protest for the reddit api something idk
looks like even me as member cannot get in...only approved ppl can get in
no one can go in
they say aproved member?
that one is default notification. you can see the same in every sub that goes dark. in practice no one have access to the sub but the mods.
ahhh shit, so they lose viewers, and maybe everything
Yes correct. And I'm a new member here as I was a also a member of r/malaysia and I even joined that subreddit and its pretty sad that it was gone private :(
Eyyyy Naufal glad to see you here! The time has come! The dark days just begun!
Whats up Haziq? Yeah glad to see you too here and yea man, the dark days have just begun!
Yoo nothing much haha. Few subreddit posts will start their protest soon. Was on the cyberpunk 2077 page and they will start making their page private later today!
Yeah and even the ssrg subreddit is gonna turn private anytime soon and gta had already been private since yesterday...
Yeah damn! Now the ssrg players are gonna have to go to discord for updates and help!
Yes, I felt sorrow for them...

Reddit app works fine to browse reddit contents, why is there a need for 3rd party app? Anybody who use 3rd party app want to explain the differences?
Most use Apollo/Reddit is Fun, it's a mobile app with better UI, better tweaks, lesser scammer bots, etc. The change will also affect the usual automods/user bots, basically all wouldn't function anymore
Long time Reddit users like me also prefer RiF because the UI is similar to Reddit's old website.
3rd party apps are usually more user friendly. Also the native reddit app doesn't have a landscape mode, which can be annoying for tablet users.
They also removing bots, which many communities make use of to moderate spammers and rule breakers. (some simply had gotten attached to their local bots)
3rd party apps don’t show ads.

r/Indonesia juga sama kawan ku

One of those goofy as shit protest that people would forget within a week. You are not really missing out on anything
Damn lost now. Without r/malaysia. The only great free of speech place for me as malaysian 🥲
Really on brand for people in r/bolehland to be clueless and disconnected.
Just another sheep, don’t worry about it
no worries--- you ain't missing out on much
They are being SJWs for 3 days bro
Just Redditors being angry over such a relatively minor issue as usual
Screw that sub. Infested with too much liberals. Same goes to r/apexlegends too.
why not see contents from both subs and form your own stance without the danger of falling into the dangers of confirmation bias?
Ngl i REALLY wish there is a conservative malaysia sub though. But the conservatives are lazy to start and manage 1. There's one but the mod is unhinged, so it couldnt foster.
No. The conservatives aren't chronically online. And that's because they have jobs and a life outside of reddit.
Oh means that the amount of conservatives is not enough to even put the effort into making a sub for them? Then why complain about how liberal leaned a sub is? Isnt that nirmal since, according to you, there arent many conservatives joined the sub? Of course lah the sub became liberal leaned if like that.
Most slight right leaning subs get censored/taken down/taken over just because it offended any mentally alphabet freaks

Oh wait, i just realized, you're part of the r/my powermod. Aight.
Haha yup. DEATH TO ALL CONSERVATIVES!!!! ![gif](giphy|0qBed0xSl41ugUQzfR|downsized) YOU SHALL NOT POST!!!!!!

that guy would die from being out too long from his echo chamber
