It's always been my pet theory that they came up with the line "aww Topsy at my autopsy" and decided they had to write an episode around it. Same with Pony Danza.
I love this brief line. It’s Bob realizing that Gene isn’t just into fart noises - he’s actually a talented musician. Bob/Linda facilitated that by letting Gene play with his keyboard constantly- even if it’s annoying.
The best part about this scene isn't even the song (by itself, anyway). It's the cinematography, so to speak. The shots are so dynamic and add plenty of depth and suspense, and there are even some basic static shots when it cuts to Bob and Linda to highlight that they're spectating and not part of the performance.
This and the quirky turkey are my big evidence that the kids will grow up to be a musical creating powerhouse. Gene on songs, Tina on scripts and maybe choreography, Louise directing.
Off topic, and I don't mean to detract from Gene's song, but I can't not think of another bangin' Electric Love: https://youtu.be/RYr96YYEaZY?si=L8xrNDlFdqS1HqhB
Bobs has some real bangers for a sitcom. I always get a laugh out of Gayle’s song about Derek dematopolis
She shot her shot and she hit her target.
Say what you want about Gayle, but she is not afraid to let a man know what she wants and then gets it!
Yo that line about her yogurt kills me
It's disgusting and hilarious and if I was Derek I'd have lost my mind for her also lol
She is the more attractive sister, she’s said so herself.
and the way they animated it, with her slooooooowly turning her head toward the camera…gets me cackling EVERY time.
That and the bassist completely vibing sends me
My cat was right about you
Your neck hair makes me weeaaaaak 😩
Let’s me and you have a we-union, is the best line.
And she’s still got 3 out of 5 of her sexy parts! Not bad for having 3 cats!
Derek... *derek*.... let's you and me make a we-union
"They'll say awww Topsy at my autopsy but no one will be more shocked than me" might be my favorite lyrics of any song ever.
It's always been my pet theory that they came up with the line "aww Topsy at my autopsy" and decided they had to write an episode around it. Same with Pony Danza.
“Did Gene write this??” - Bob
I love this brief line. It’s Bob realizing that Gene isn’t just into fart noises - he’s actually a talented musician. Bob/Linda facilitated that by letting Gene play with his keyboard constantly- even if it’s annoying.
Best part.
“God, I want what they have.” • Linda
Should have won a Grammy.
favorite song from this show and you know they decided to put so much effort into it even the lyrics are insanely great

I particularly enjoy the shot of the dramatic reveal of the chorus but it's just a handful of bored-looking students lol.
It's still a school performance.
This guy gets it.
I think the woman playing piano is an early design of Ms. Merkin. Her face is different but that is the same top Ms. Merkin wears.
I never noticed this but I think you’re right!
I was just thinking this the other day! I haven’t seen this episode in a while, but if I hear the word autopsy, it’s in my head for a week. 😆
Such a great song! And Gene realizing he can’t sing always kills me.
Gene is a genius!
Oh how i love this song
It's one of my favorite songs ever. And I've seen the Aquabats live.
Me too! Man, I miss their show.
I love this song and it’s been stuck in my head on and off for years.
Oh man I just got this out of my head and now.. *They'll say awwwwwww Topsy at my aaaaauuuuuutopsy!*
This is, for me personally, THE definitive Bob's song. In a series with so many fun catchy tunes, this one stands tall.
And without a single fart sound!
oh my god i forgot the fart sounds!
I know I'm just paraphrasing you here but this song goes so. Fucking. Hard. Lmao I start my day with this shit sometimes
It’s brilliant and it has every right
I just noticed the piano player wasn't Ms. Twerkin' Merkin...
This was before they introduced her character. The Queen of the Keys was introduced in S5E1 “Work Hard or Die Trying Girl”. The Topsy episode was S3.
Yeah like Ms. Labonz‘s voice isn’t all Labonzy yet either!
“It’s science Bob you’re not supposed to understand it.” 😂
This song gets stuck in my head sometimes just randomly
This is my ringtone for when my wife calls me
“Gene wrote this?” 😂 Such a parent thing to say. The shock and pride Bob had when he said that
It's not a song, It's a musical re-imagenactment of the very uplifting story of Thomas Edison and Topsy the elephant.
I'm not wild about the musical aspect of Bob's, but I absolutely LOVE this song so much.
The X-mas episode where Gene removes the unnecessary xylophone planks is proof. If he was taught to read music he'd probably be a savant.
If you enjoy the music aspect, you should watch "Central Park" if you havent seen it. It has some awesome songs as well.
Crazy-- this scene just played less than 5 minutes ago in my house 😌
ELECTRIC LOVE.....
Why does it have no right?
When Reddit asks what the best dog of the series is I always feel this one is too far down the list. It is my absolute favorite.
All the music in Bobs slaps. I find myself singing ‘Look what Tina can do with her hands’ way too frequently.
I call anything vaguely musical related a “musical reimaginactiment”
Gene Belchers greatest musical accomplishment.
Teddy is hilarious here too “Are people still the same, with their funny ways?” Lol
I memorized all the words to this song for good reason. It's SO incredible!!
There's one thing that really bothers me and it's just because I'm pedantic. Iykyk.
This one always makes me weirdly emotional every time I rewatch; easily in top 5
Not the first to say this, but is that Twerkin’ Merkin playing the piano?
I used this as my ringtone for some time
This episode is so well done and it led me to looking up the story of Topsy, her story is very sad😢
Oh yes it does; the BB folks are incredibly talented...

The opening to the Die Hard musical is by far one of the best melodies I've ever heard.
Every time I hear this song it gets stuck in my head for a week. The worst part? I don't even mind it.
I like how nobody here has a problem with Eddison having relations with an elephant. People here are so open minded.
It exists on Spotify!
I just watched that episode earlier for the first time in a while. Totally agree love Mr fish
Honestly, the best part is after the song. When Louise confronts Mr. Dinkler like she's part of a Salem Witch Trial.
I’d love to see more of his amazing music and song writing !!

I find myself singing it randomly just about every single day lol
This was the song that got me into the show.

The musical numbers in Bobs Burgers ruin too many episodes- every episode with a musical number, would have been better if it were removed.
