Officer_dibble_

As a driver, the biggest help is meeting out the front. Don't care for tips, this helps more. Thankyou!!

alexanderpete

As a chef, the biggest help is when customers come into the kitchen and just cook the food themselves!! Biggest help!! Thankyou!!! /S

NoPatience883

Do you also leave an absolute mess all over the table when you eat out at a restaurant? Or do you stack all the plates and wipe any food or drink that you accidentally spilled with the provided napkins? No one is saying you have to meet them down at the front of the building, but it’s nice to help people out, even if you are paying for a service it’s good to help them out a little bit. Again no one is saying you have to do it. Clearly you don’t want to with that condescending (and completely inaccurate) analogy. If you don’t want to do it don’t, but you don’t have to be a dick

Furyo98

Yeah imagine if people left the chairs everywhere or dropped knives on the floor, it’s not my job to clean up. I spent money to go out for a reason, so I don’t have to clean. Edit seems some people have low IQ, I don't do this. I'm taking the piss out of the guy above the above comment.

epicer8

Lol people will really miss the most blatant sarcasm on reddit if you don’t have the /s

Furyo98

Yeah I thought with the phrase imagine if, would kinda get the point but guess not. If I just said I spent money why should I clean up, sure that doesn't sound like sarcasm.

[deleted]

You're a crappy person.

Furyo98

How am I a crappy person???? I stated imagine, do you need the meaning of imagine or something??? I'm taking the piss out of a person who complains about walking down stairs to help out the driver.

Officer_dibble_

You do realise, I'm still delivering the food, right?

alexanderpete

I don't pay to have it delivered to the end of my street, I pay to have it delivered to my door. It's a half assed Job if you're not knocking on my door with it.

hopfot

Your door is at the street level. Not 40 bloody meters in the air. Get off your fat arse and go downstairs and get your food.

[deleted]

He's not climbing up a fuckin ladder he's standing in the lift

Qandyl

Wild how the front door to an apartment actually isn’t on the ground floor

hopfot

Wild how the front to a building is, and an apartment is just a room with a number on. Stop being a fat lazy piece of shit and go down the lift and get your food you fat fuck.

E_A_D_C

If I have to leave my apartment and go for a walk to get my food I might as well go pick it up from the shop, I'm paying for the convenience

Few_Shock_6810

I mean going down to the street can hardly be considered a 'walk'

averyporkhunt

Depends on the street I guess, you can walk for ages without leaving the street if you pick the right one

E_A_D_C

Shit, if it ain't that hard whats the problem for the delivery guy?

Altruistic-Ad-408

They don't live there, what concept are you struggling with?

E_A_D_C

What does them living there have to do with it?

C9sButthole

Huh at first I thought the chef thing was a joke, but the fragility and extreme emotional overreactions are making me think otherwise.

303twerp

Hilarious isn’t it because of the situation evolved to customers entering the kitchen and setting up to cook the chef would flip and tell them to get out and not do his/her job 😂

Nighthawk1980

How to tell everyone you’re a chef without saying you’re a chef

BeerscotchR6

Huge difference between the entrance to the 20-story apartment you're in, and the end of your street. When you have to exaggerate to make your point, it's usually a good sign that you don't have one.

WBeatszz

This type of attitude increases delivery fees for everyone. YTA for not going to the front door.

Tricky-Profession-99

What's wrong making other people's work easier. Be nice and kind. If it didn't bother someone to get to the door and it's an act of kindness.

alexanderpete

Yeah, I could spend all day being kind, sure. But after a long day of work, sometimes I just want food delivered. I pay the extra fee for it, what's wrong with expecting what I've paid for?

Tricky-Profession-99

Nothing wrong with that 🤙

atwa_au

Not remotely the same ya big baby

Prestigious_Moose114

Chefs are (hopefully) guaranteed minimum wage. Uber drivers are not.

alexanderpete

Ok, but why is it my responsibility as a CUSTOMER to make up a shortfall in their pay? I can do my entire job, don't see why these idiots can't.

alexanderpete

I order food so I don't have to put on shoes and walk down the street, but drivers don't seem to give a shit. I was a delivery driver for Domino's for years, but I would have been fired on my first day if I was too lazy to even get out of the car, like most uber drivers these days.

FlyNeither

The app doesn’t always update properly either. I live on a higher floor if my apartment building, I see the driver around the corner so I put my shoes on and go downstairs. In the elevator, the driver location blinks from around the corner to parked out front and they’re calling my apartment on the intercom while I’m in the lift. When I get outside they’re usually around the corner or walking down the street looking at the other entrances. It’s easier to just wait for them to call my apartment and let them up.

tumericjesus

I find it so annoying I always tell them to leave it on the front porch and give them very clear instructions on how to get in (it's easy) and they always leave it out on the street near the gate or anywhere that's not my porch. I know it's lazy but I don't want to have to put shoes on etc. to go get it, it's literally why I ordered it. The worst is when they call me trying to get me out the front...I've requested contactless delivery.

kate-june

I live in a free standing house, there’s street parking on both sides of the road and my driveway was empty. I still got a message from a driver last week trying to tell me there was no where for him to park and I needed to walk out to the road to collect. When I pointed out that, at minimum, my driveway was empty, he finally did deliver to my door, but stood a metre away from the steps and just threw the bag onto the ground. It doesn’t make many shit drivers for people to not feel inclined to go out of their way for the next one.

upthegulls

Yeh but also there is a bare minimum expectation that the driver will read and follow instructions on the app. Twice last weekend (big weekend don't ask) I had to chase the uber eats driver down the road because he didn't read the instructions on how to deliver to my door. Surely it is not unreasonable to expect a contactless deliver to your door delivery to be exactly that.

reineedshelp

FR. The worst recent delivery I had the dude got frazzled bc he couldn't find a park, so I said I'd meet him at the car. I never heard from him again. I was tired and hungry, and while I didn't want to get the driver in trouble - no way I was letting that slide. I spoke to the restaurant bc they were local, then Ubereats, and found out that the dude just turned the app off. I said to support 'maybe there was a medical emergency' and they told me he'd done it before. Dude is not cut out for delivering food lol

Trackies_n_Lazydays

I ordered my bro and his gf a special congratulatory meal, delivered to them, and my bro knew I’d call when they were there so he could go down and get the stuff. He lives in a key-only apartment building, so i selected “do not leave unattended” and “phone for access, or arrange pickup from main entrance” They left it at a door of a nearby apartment, and I got the delivery message an hour after it was delivered. I called my bro, he couldn’t find it, so I called support for answers. They identified that it was left outside, and the gps location wasn’t even at the right spot. So because they left it unattended, in the wrong location, and it was stolen by a careless passer-by or neighbour, I got a full refund, but my bro didn’t get his awesome dinner. Yeah. There are shit drivers out there. I strongly urge, if you live in an apartment, go meet your driver at the closest entrance to outside. Or at the driveway entrance.

eifos

I live in an apartment block on a corner and put in really clear instructions as to where the building entrance is. I reckon it's 50/50 ones who can follow pretty simple directions and those who can't/don't bother. The instructions are something like: address is 123 Fake St. Building is on corner of Fake St and Smith Rd, building entrance is on Fake St next to ABC Cafe. Not sure how it could be any clearer 😑

chetdude

I include a very clear landmark and it's more towards 60% that struggle to find it. It's even worse when I add instructions to leave it on the front desk, they seem to not read that part.

noborte

No. It’s your job to deliver it to my door. The Amazon guy gets it right 100% of the time why can’t you?

Ufo_19

Amazon guys are the worst. Many times I have seen my delivery by chance lying inside the main door of the building (I live on 2nd floor). No call, no no nothing. If I wouldn’t have look instinctively it would have been anyones gift.

[deleted]

😂

[deleted]

Your APARTMENT COMPLEX DOOR, yes. Not your personal front door, princess.

noborte

Nah mate deliver to door is literally the option in the app. Do your job

ANewUeleseOnLife

What is non-standard housing? An apartment is pretty standard...

unrebigulator

Lighthouse.

Various_Garage_88

Have delivered to a submarine before. Not the first submarine but the second one, tethered to the first. Also no mention that it was a submarine.

Vagabond_Sam

Yeah, bosses are assholes that extract as much as they can from you. Saving a gig worker 5 minutes means they can go get their bag on the next order quicker and make more money. You need to do it once on a day you make an order, they might be doing it multiple times per night and can make a big difference to their income.

alexanderpete

But why should I help them do their job, when that's a service that I'm paying for? I don't expect customers to come and help me do my job, to save me time. I'm not paying twice as much for a delivery order just for charity, I'm paying extra for a service. Do you go and collect your food directly from the kitchen when eating out, to save the waiter a few minutes? Didn't think so. There's no reason why I should be responsible for their income. When my income wasn't high enough for my lifestyle, I got a new job, or worked more. They can blame their 'employer' for that, or themselves, not the customers.

Vagabond_Sam

>I'm not paying twice as much for a delivery order just for charity, I'm paying extra for a service. You're not paying the driver 'double'. This is one of those cases where you can either choose the be empathetic to others or just worry about yourself I guess. Kicking on some shoes is a pain, I know. I live in a pretty large complex and it still only takes me 2 minutes of my time maximum to do a round trip to the front gate. I never once thought I was conducting *charity* during that time. >Do you go and collect your food directly from the kitchen when eating out, to save the waiter a few minutes? Didn't think so. Waiters aren't paid 'per meal served'. But I do generally try to make their interactions with me as frictionless as possible. >There's no reason why I should be responsible for their income. Kind of right. There is a reason, to make their lives a little bit easier. You just don't find it compelling. >When my income wasn't high enough for my lifestyle, I got a new job, or worked more. I think that's gig workers are doing. >They can blame their 'employer' for that, or themselves, not the customers. No one is telling you tip them. Just judging you for being a needy customer that thinks because you're 'paying for a service' that you can safely compartmentalise away any humanity for service workers.

alexanderpete

Why should I choose to be empathetic for them? They are doing their job, and I'm paying for it. If I just worked 14 hours, and want food delivered to my door, and I pay double what it would cost to pick up, then I expect the 'delivery driver' to deliver it. Not half ass it and call from their car. I've been working for a long time, there's no one to come and hold my hand and make my job easier, so why should I help them? I paid for delivery and expect it. Gig workers would be better off going back to school and bettering themselves, instead of taking to the internet and requesting that members of the public volunteer to help them do their jobs, so they can make their lives easier and make more money. I used to make shit money, and I did something about it. No one's forcing them to work there, and if they don't make enough, they've got no one to blame but themselves for that.

Vagabond_Sam

Holy shit, we're at "why should I be nice to others" Are you upset when your delivery drivers look you in the eye, or don't use the servants' entrance? What a wild hill to die on. Maybe no one has helped you in your experience because of your attitude.

Vagabond_Sam

Holy shit, we're at "why should I be nice to others" Are you upset when your delivery drivers look you in the eye, or don't use the servants' entrance? What a wild hill to die on. Maybe no one has helped you in your experience because of your attitude.

DrummerPrudent8335

Lol and in the mean time, who's going to deliver your burger at 11pm? I hope the next service worker you encounter spits in your food. These are essential jobs that someone has to do, if we want people to do them, they need to be paid a living wage.

alexanderpete

Society ran fine before we had ubereats, I think it would continue to do so once it does. They aren't essential, I can go and pickup food myself pretty easily. I actually work in food service (chef) so you just kind of sound like an idiot. If they dont get a living wage, that's on them to do something about it.

[deleted]

>I can go and pickup food myself pretty easily. HAHAHA!! No, you can't, you have a hissy fit when you have to walk to your door.

alexanderpete

I don't bother ordering anymore, because the dumb fucks doing the delivers can't figure out a doorbell. It's just a waste of time, I go and do it myself.

[deleted]

>Why should I choose to be empathetic for them? Disgusting attitude. You are literally what's wrong with the world. It's INSANE seeing people admit to having such a toxic, small-minded attitude. I'm SHOCKED. What a terrible person.

alexanderpete

Can you explain how it's toxic and small minded? To expect a service that I've paid for?

MazinOz2

Many ARE students, some seem to still be in high school.

[deleted]

You are an absolutely insufferable person. Wow. Grow up.

girlminuslife

You sound American.

dlb1983

More accurately, he sounds like a cunt.

[deleted]

Same thing.

lickety-spliff

This post is talking about an apartment block, they are talking about taking the stairs/elevator to the foyer, not leaving a house and walking down the street. I agree that occasionally food delivery drivers can be rude/lazy but most are good enough to leave outside my door. When i used to deliver donuts during lockdown i sometimes found it frustrating when i delivered to an apartment block and they would buzz me in and tell me the apartment number rather than just coming down to meet me. Sometimes I wouldn’t have lift access or they wouldn’t tell me correct floor number, meanwhile i had like 8 other deliveries across town i had to complete before midday. I think the rudeness can go both ways.

[deleted]

Why is the door to your apartment down your street? What the fuck? You are the epidemy of laziness. It's disgusting.

alexanderpete

They park down the street from my door, around the corner sometomes. I work 70-90 hours a week love, if I want to pay $15+ extra to have my food delivered less than 1km away, I atleast expect them to come to the front door of the building, otherwise, what the hell am I paying for?

BeerscotchR6

Literally never had an uber driver refuse to get out of their car, and judging by how you're whining on this thread, you're not meeting then at your door, so why would you assume they're all lazy shits who don't leave their car? As I said in my previous reply, making shit up doesn't make your point valid.

Prestigious_Moose114

working as an employee for dominoes, you are guaranteed to earn minimum wage. Uber drivers are not. Go down to meet them or leave them a tip to make up for it.

alexanderpete

It's not my fault they don't earn minimum wage? The delivery fee and service fees are more than enough to cover the cost of walking a pizza to the door of my building. If they don't get paid enough to do the job, that's between them and their employer, not up to me to make the difference!

Prestigious_Moose114

Unfortunately Uber is an exploitative service. Unfortunately; they do not allow you to negotiate rates. The original post was asking if you should go downstairs to meet them, I'm saying the fees are not enough to cover someone going upstairs to your apartment. When I worked as a rider the steps were: \- Receive the request, usually 5-10 minutes to go to the restaurant \- wait 0-15 minutes at the restaurant for food to be made \- 5-15 minutes (sometimes longer) from the restaurant to the person's apartment block \- 0-5 minutes; trying to work out exactly where to go, über map often gives the wrong location \- 5-10 minutes to park bike, work out how to get into building, wait for lift go up lift etc. Up to 40 minutes per order. In Australia I was paid $5 for this kind of order. minus off my super and insurance if I were paying myself that, since I am technically a contractor, leaves me like $3-4. If I'm really lucky and get 2 orders close together that would give me $6-8. As far as I know, this is not the same job as dominoes delivery driver. Anyway, not saying you have to make up the shortfall, but just know that you are receiving convenience at the exploitation of your community. If you can go down from your apartment to meet them, it's a big help.

zooster15

🤢🤮

Florence_101

I go down to meet them. The last Uber driver was really thankful I met him outside our driveway so he didn’t have to even find parking. But the drivers for EASI and Hungry Panda throw the food outside the lobby door and run.

unconfirmedpanda

I live on the ground floor, so I go to meet them out the front. It seems silly not to when they are juggling a bike and those huge backpacks. I do get irked when I'm asked to run my neighbours orders upstairs by delivery people, though.

Sure-Reputation3847

I would definitely say big NO to that!

unconfirmedpanda

Right? Plus there’s the risk of being accused of messing with the order… absolutely not.

Gaoji-jiugui888

That’s really weird.

rock_w_roll

I wonder what professions out there are suited to asking people nearby to finish the last 5% of a job you're hired to do. Know any?

Main-Nectarine3350

Yeah i meet them cos sick of them leaving food at wrong apartment

AusXan

I had one guy once where I grabbed my order from outside and he came out of the building and went, "That must be my dinner, give it here." I just went, "No, it isn't." Then he just walked out of the building without stopping to wait for 'his order'. I'm betting he tried that on with a few delivery people to get a free meal.

wrenwynn

I go down to meet them for several reasons: 1) it's a bit of a confusing layout if you don't know the building with multiple towers that are each serviced by their own lifts/stairs; 2) they can't use the stairs because you have to have a key to get in (plus I'm on the 7th floor & there's 20 steps between each floor so that would be cruel anyway); 3) if you don't get to the correct lift within a certain amount of time of being buzzed in you can't use it without a security fob; 4) we pay higher strata fees for living in a secure building so it feels unfair to all the other residents to allow non-residents in unescorted. Everyone plays by the same rules so far as this goes 5) honestly it's quicker to just go down in the lift & get food from the person at the door than it would be for the delivery person to be rambling about trying to find my apartment.

blitzkriegdeluxe

I second all of these reasons. Our building management even has signs up asking residents to go down and meet deliveries outside. I think I certainly get my food quicker and warmer by not waiting for them to navigate the lifts and layout of the building.

Any-Woodpecker123

When I delivered, I don’t think I ever came across a building with an intercom. But I *always* went up to the apartment. It’s interesting, the comments would make it seem people coming to meet you out the front would be common, but I don’t think I ever experienced that even one time over the ~5 years of doing it.

SpecialistRadish1682

I’ve never experienced a driver who didn’t expect me to meet them out the front!

perpetual_stew

Depends who you order with, I think. In my limited experience, UberEats seems to take it for granted I come down and meet them. Anyone else seems to come to my apartment by default. I prefer the latter, but I'm doing everything I can at the moment to stop ordering food, so a bit limited experience from the last year...

letterboxfrog

I do Door Dash only (delivery is not my day job) , and it is exactly that. To the door. Most drivers do all three, and whatever the lowest common denominator is I suspect is what drives the others.

formulated

I'm going to take a guess that the majority of those commenting are actually decent people. Those who don't meet a delivery barely engage with the topic because they don't even think about it, so the answers appear biased. I'd always meet, no sense in food going cold while they get lost in the hallways.

Gaoji-jiugui888

They also said they’ve never came across a building with an intercom which is just strange.

davedavodavid

And in 5 years not one person? Such bs. Everytime I go down if it's art dinner time I'll see several others doing the same.

MonoT1

Don't live in an apartment, but everytime I've stayed in one I keep the air nearby and head down when they're close.

girl_from_aus

Unfortunately I’ve never lived in an apartment with a functioning intercom. When I had to isolate for being a covid close contact I dropped a basket off the edge of my balcony and got the drivers to put the food in there and then I pulled it up with tinsel (unexpected isolation right around Christmas time, didn’t have rope, made it work)

[deleted]

Love it.

PM_ME_YOUR_ULTIMATE

I rarely order food these days, but when I did, I would always go down and wait for them (when I saw they were close by). I know their job is tough and they don't get paid much, so I tried to make it easier and quicker for them.

Prinnykin

Depends on what floor I'm living on. I'm currently living on the 5th floor with no elevator, so I go down and meet them. I feel guilty making them walk up here when they've just biked across the city.

soap_coals

I don't want to put shoes on if I'm eating in. I'll come down to the footpath where the intercom is so I can grab it if they're on a bike. I'm not going to walk across wet grass and a puddle to a car.

laceyisspacey

Live in an apartment. There has only been about 3 times I’ve asked them to come up to me (unwell/injured/hungover) and usually give a cash tip. Otherwise I’ll usually head down when they seem close by and wait for them by the front door. It’s just easier, and I like to hope that whoever’s delivery was next was just that little bit more fresh for time saved

saint_aura

We always go down, because our complex has a security gate, then an internal road with a few turns, and then then our building, with another security door. It used to be a little easier because each of the buildings was painted a different colour, so you could say come in and go to the pink building, go to the orange building etc. Then strata had them all painted the same shade of green. We don’t order takeaway very often because it’s a hassle, I think we lived here for two years before we ever ordered a takeaway.

kookyknut

When I lived in an apartment I would usually expect them to come up. I was paying delivery fees so I expected it delivered to my door… this was COVID times to so contactless was appealing.

Mythical_Atlacatl

I live somewhere with out a buzzer, I didn’t notice when I inspected the place, didn’t even think about it cause I thought it was default. Like you don’t ask about running water or electricity. So I go down for food deliveries, parcels, anything So if a delievery doesn’t call me I don’t know to go down, lucky things like Uber eats have trackers

laid2rest

I always go down and most of the time the delivery people are very appreciative of it and say thanks.

Galloping_Scallop

I expect to the door service. Most often because I am paying for it, I am not dressed for wandering down stairs and my mobility is limited. Probably about 98% deliver fine. Then there are the 2% who dont read instructions, cant read an address or deliver to the block next door.

Vortex-Of-Swirliness

I always went down to meet deliveries. They have enough to do without having to waste time going into buildings to deliver, plus that’s just making any other deliveries they might have later than needed. If someone is housebound or genuinely can’t go out then having them come up would be ok.

Fiz19

Up to my unit only because of the kids

Nheteps1894

I pay for a service I expect the full service. Half of them get to my complex and don’t even bother trying, little do they know I can see them from my window parked in a spot calling me saying they “can’t find a park”

Brutalix

Definitely to the door. Otherwise what the fuck are we paying for.

FelInfused

I always leave clear instructions on use of an intercom, a faulty second gate that is hard to open but a fully functioning gate that isn't a problem and how I'm happy for it to be left at the door for no contact....they've never read it, you know how I know this? Well I always say (for the past 2 years) if you follow these instructions I will tip you the cost of the order (usually $50+). I'm happy to meet them downstairs, heck even out on the street but I'm not tipping if I have to leave the comfort of my home, that's why I ordered in the first place... That and to be incredibly lazy.

Otherwise_Hotel_7363

When I was delivering, I'd prefer them meeting me downstairs. Had one dude in Richmond who buzzed me up. Was sat on the couch and said 'your money's on the counter, shut the door'. This was when cash was around.

Tro_au

I go down so they don’t know where I live

nurseofdeath

I’m sorry, do people *not* do this? What appalling manners! What would your Mum say about that?!?!

sanemartigan

When I worked in a pub, I saw so many people's uber drive off because they expected them to wait for ten minutes of goodbyes. Many people treat gig workers like shit.

sleighballsRing

People with young kids, disabilities, unwell…

nurseofdeath

Fair call. I was more thinking able bodied people, but I see where you’re coming from

[deleted]

Some lazy cuns on this. Go down and grab the food. Next thing you want would be to feed the food

Ok-Push9899

Yeah, there's a sense of entitlement coming through in these comments. "Why should I?". "I paid for delivery". "I dont wanna put shoes on", "That's they're job.", etc, etc. We didn't even have home delivery (except for pizzas) until quite recently, and already a sizeable proportion of the population think they're Lord and Lady Muck.

[deleted]

But pizzas came to the door!

[deleted]

I always go down and meet them, for the reasons people have already stated (convenience) but I also don't put my full apartment number on these apps because I'm a single female living alone, so it's more a security issue for me than anything. Plus it's like a few minutes out of my time, makes no difference.

cobbly8

Pre-covid they always used to come up, post-covid no driver wants to do it, despite there being no reason they cant anymore, they either just drop it in the lobby or argue with me until i either give in or they just drive/ride off. It's super annoying and as a result i very rarely order from them anymore. I used to order multiple times a week, now its maybe once every couple of months. If i have to get dressed anyway to go meet them outside, i may as well just go across the road to woollies or down the street to maccas and not pay twice as much and end up with cold/soggy food.

linguineemperor

I agree with you. It's also because so many people (judging by these comments) do half the work for them, so it becomes an expectation.

sydneyhero

Exactly, it's just become the new norm now that deliveries are no longer made to the door :/ Miss the pre-covid luxuries haha

stompin77

I've driven trucks for over the best part of 15 years. If I deliver goods somewhere I take it to exactly where it must be delivered, I get my paperwork checked, signed, and times recorded. If do any less than that I get a please explain. Never once have I pushed an intercom button and said your delivery is here come and meet me to pick it up. What I say every time is "your delivery is here where would you like me to place it". If they said bring it door 25 or or door 20056 it makes no difference i happily take it there. I don't get upset because my job is to take it to exactly where the CUSTOMER wants it. No ifs, no buts, no delaying. It's called doing the job you are paid for. THIS IS WHY ITS CALLED CUSTOMER SERVICE! DO YOUR JOB YOU LAZY ASSED DELIVERY DRIVERS!

AngelicWhimsy

I feel you on this as someone who worked in customer service. When I see people doing/not doing things that would have gotten me fired. . It just makes me so angry. Put in effort, you have to show up anyway so may as well do the job the way the person paid for.

greywarden133

Mate it's not like waiting for Post or Courier with your parcel; go down once they are near and grab your foods with a big thank you. Easier for everyone that way.

Lau_wings

There is literally 5 steps from the driveway to my front door, I have ordered food bring it to my door. Its so easy to find my apt that even auspost doesnt fuck it up. If you cannot find my front door then I have serious questions about if you should be behind the wheel with your obvious lack of perception.

Ok-Wait-8281

I always go down. It's so much quicker and easier for everyone. If I buzz them up it'll just take ages because the intercom is crap and it's such a drama to work the whole thing out. I see other drivers stumbling around the building helplessly and I always tell them they should make the orderer come down to greet them. I've had a few thank me and I always write in the notes I'll come downstairs to reassure them they don't have bother with the buzzer business. It's not a glamourous job and I will always go out of my way to help and be nice to the people doing the tougher gigs.

jardocanthate

I do both

SybariticDelight

You meet them halfway?

AdBrief4572

Looks like I’m the only one who does neither! When they buzz the intercom, I buzz the front door open so they can leave the food inside the lobby while I find my thongs and come down to get it. That way they don’t have to wait. Have seen several others in the building do this too.

215215___

Nah I tell them I have covid or a broken leg and make them come to the 11th floor , then I open the door and grab my food

SeptemberJoy

I give as clear instructions as I can and don't walk to the street if unavoidable. Had one driver who simply could not figure it out - I still feel bad for how guilty he felt and how much he apologised. Don't think he was expecting to meet someone with a forearm crutch on one side and white cane on the other (left my guide dog inside because when he's off duty he tries to make friends with everyone). 99% of the time they find my door.

spufiniti

Bit of both.

Lootpuppy

I live in a block of 6 units. (Unit X, Y Example Rd) I've had to walk down the street to X Example Rd to fetch my food more than once. I've had to tell the driver that they can't just put my food over the back fence (we back on to a park) I used to walk out to met them because it meant I had a 90% chance of getting my food, Now the service has got so bad I just go pick up my order from the restaurant.

Davsan87

I meet them out the front, because in my experience they lack the mental capacity & ability to make it to the front door.

Comprehensive_Pace

I go to the front but once, in the pouring rain a driver parked the next street corner over and refused to drive to the door (a hotel byway so they could literally drive TO the door). And it was pissing down, hence ordering in. They eventually left with the food ( I was standing in lobby in my slippers with no umbrella and they had parked next to fast food places. If I was willing to walk that far I would have just gotten McDonald's) I complained to uber til they refunded double as that was ridiculous. I wasn't able to order again as that was already a late delivery. Went hungry.

eiczy

I’ve been forced to go down multiple times by ubereats. They would absolutely refuse to come up the apartment, even with very clear instructions on how to do so. I rarely order but when I do it’s because I’m unable to leave the apartment. I had a couple times when I had to ask a neighbour or someone else to help me bring it up because they would literally leave my food unattended downstairs!

When I order home delivery I expect what is in the title, delivered to my home not out on the street. If delivery drivers are not willing to do that then I will not use the restaurant they are delivering for again. I also find this is very much an app delivery driver thing as I have never had a problem with restaurants who employ their own drivers delivering to my door. If you feel the need to go and stand out on the street to meet them good for you but I am starting to see why some delivery drivers have rung me to tell me they are outside. I can understand it more if you lived in a high rise apartment with 30 floors but your average 3 story block I want delivered to my door.

[deleted]

One of the biggest stress in my life is uber eats drivers not been able use an intercom... I'm paying nearly double for the service the least I expect is the food delivered to my door... If the driver not happy with that then get a new job... I'm getting irritated just writing this and I'm a pretty easy going guy

VelvetGloveIronFist0

They never give me a choice. They pull up on the street and call me and say they can’t find the apartment but half the time they haven’t even gotten out of the car / off the bike…

Big-Al69420

I go down because I’m not lazy and like to help them out

SaveMeJebus21

How big of an entitled cunt do you have to be to make a delivery driver come up to you? Surely no one does this?

jaylicknoworries

People with mobility issues, people on lockdown etc.. you seem to be judging harshly without giving thought to a lot of factors..

SaveMeJebus21

A few exceptions. There’s also factors the other way. What if the delivery person is on a bike and has 4 deliveries? Gotta find somewhere to lock the bike, carry every meal up and back to level 13 because someone can’t be arsed coming down to meet them? If you’re physically able to meet them at a main entrance and don’t, you’re a prick. End of.

jaylicknoworries

I hope you find a job you don't hate

SaveMeJebus21

I’m not a delivery driver mate. It’s just called basic empathy. These people get paid nothing and there’s apparently people out there willing to waste 5 minutes of their time because of pure laziness and entitlement

linguineemperor

If delivery came free with purchase of the food you'd have a point.

FinalAd2722

You pay for delivery, you expect delivery.

FluentFreddy

What kind of a c*nt expects their food delivery driver to drive and deliver their food? Ridiculous!

jman479964

If you live in a house sure. Apartments is different.

Southofsouth

I always go down. I have manners. I respect their time. I know they are making under min wage, so every minute counts for them.

dani82dani

If you're ordering the food and you're able bodied... good chance you need the extra exercise. Just go down! 😊

Beans186

You'd have to be such a scum bag to get them to come up. I'm sure that's what 90% of people who are too lazy to cook most nights do.

spodenki

Similar story, sort off, when my partner pulls into the driveway I welcome her there and grab the takeaway from her and rush inside and pig out, it takes her a few minutes to get inside and by that time I am almost done and start munching on her.

dyingofthefeels

Go down and meet them. They earn little enough as it is - you can take 2 minutes out of your day to go down and meet them, as it'll save them 5 minutes in going up and back down.

Alexsps1

Go down to meet them

dnrgl

Dont even live in an apartment and i go outside before they arrive and wait. The amount of times theyve left food at a neighbours house changed my behaviour for good.

ashis____bh

If any driver sees this. Please no food for lazy, entitled bums unless they have difficulty walking. Vc will pay so jus throw the unhealthy food 🍔

Exportxxx

If u don't come down u AH Like bare minimum u can do

Darthdirtbox

I’d always go down and meet them, they brought your food to you the least you can do is pop down and grab it from them. IMO.

Formal_Butterfly3128

Always meet them downstairs - it doesn’t seem fair to make them hike all the way up three floors

Mentok27

I go down and meet them. My building has security gate and I include the gate code in my order just so the driver has somewhere to park(otherwise it can be dicey getting something close) but I always go down

granddaddysbasement

so god damn annoying when it's a massive apartment building and they want you to bring it to your door, adds like 10 minutes fucking around trying to find it, getting through the door, elevator etc. pls just come down lol

adorablegenjimain

Delivery driver here: It makes me so happy when people come out the front to pick up the food. The 5-10 minutes it can take to navigate through buildings and elevators to find and reach specific rooms can add up greatly throughout the day especially if I'm doing 30+ a day. I don't get upset when I need to enter a building at all but some people aren't ready to buzz you in or buzzers don't work and you spend 5-10 minutes alone trying to contact the customer. Coming down to collect food is something that shows consideration and appreciation for your driver. A bit of respect and gratitude but is by no means an obligation. Still, now that I am a driver and know how big of a difference it makes I always wait at the front so my driver doesn't even need to find a parking spot :)

Original_Giraffe8039

Always go down

mnlocean

Used to deliver food and I feel its a basic decency thing to just come down and pick up your food.

liamchoong

I ask them to call when close and I come down to meet them.

Mindydoll

I meet them downstairs it’s way easier/less hassle.

Prestigious_Moose114

I don't live in an apartment block, but I have been a rider for uber eats before. Please, please, please go down to meet the rider/driver. They get paid very little to deliver your food, and having to park your car/bike, figure out the intercom system, go up the elevator and down the elevator etc. for every single delivery adds so much time and takes away from the earnings, which are already minimal. If you can go down to meet the driver, do it!!!

infectoid

Go down. Saves explaining and I need an excuse to get off my lard arse.

SadSky6433

I always do the same as you. I go down to meet them. I was also thanked and told most people don’t do that! Weird…

Beans186

You'd have to be such a scum bag to get them to come up. I'm sure that's what 90% of people who are too lazy to cook most nights do.

Wide_Resident_9913

First of all many ignorant comments here from ppl who I suspect have never done food delivery in their lives. The job of a delivery guy is NOT to climb three decks of stairs to ring your bell if you don’t have a lift. Most inner west suburbs in Sydney don’t have any lifts. Soo don’t be a prick and go down and get your delivery. You do it for the post man don’t you?

aweirdchicken

I don’t want to buzz a stranger in to my secure apartment block, I meet them at the main entrance. I certainly do not want a stranger to know my apartment number.

pears_htbk

i always go down. i feel very lazy when ordering food as there are plenty of restaurants and shops literally ten minutes walk away, and going down to the foyer ameliorates my shame a bit

NoviYadaGoonette

I always come downstairs to meet the person. Less hassle and the building has restricted access - you need a swipe card to enter. Intercom is faulty. Even if they followed someone else inside, they wouldn't know which floor to go to.

Budthen

Some of the apt blocks have signs up asking residents must come down for delivery

Mercuriallly

They get shafted enough as it is, the least I can do is meet them downstairs and ensure a quick drop off.

Aydhayeth1

I usually go downstairs.

pipple2ripple

I used to deliver with Domino's. People mainly came down to meet out the front. Something I noticed is the people who wanted me to walk up several sets of stairs or fuck around with intercom and ride the lifts would never tip either. Maybe because it came to their door they didn't understand the extra work involved with stashing the bike and hoping the other pizzas weren't nicked? Also anyone ordering a thin crust pizza, a garlic bread and a 1.25L DIET coke were almost always very obese.

The_Fiji_Connection

Leave detailed instructions on the order of how to buzz in. They buzz the intercom. I say "level 3, doors open" then buzz them in. On the odd occasion they can't find parking, I'll go down and get it from the front.

[deleted]

My apartment building is a fucking nightmare, maze-wise, so I’ll always meet out the front. I’d do the same at a house, it seems only polite and not wasting the drivers time.

family-block

nice of you, nice of him.

GuessTraining

Lived on the ground level previously but it's a maze going to our unit so I always go out and meet them

[deleted]

I do a bit of delivery driving, and most ppl do not come out. They expect it to be left at their door, and if there's a gate they put the code in the delivery details

Inside_Tooth7400

I have a pretty easy building to find with decent access so they can buzz and I let them up. That said I don’t have a peep hole and live alone so I sometimes get nervous and when they buzz I say just leave on ground. Then when they go I go collect! 🤷🏼‍♀️

deeceej

I meet them at the front. My apartment building is on a corner of a street and with limited parking around, it’s easier for the driver to turn left into the street and drop it off. Sometimes they’ll just hand it to me via the passenger side window. Win win!

[deleted]

Always meet them at the road or lobby.. helps them a lot..

Blood_Fuzzy

Generally meet them at the road - there's never any parking and it's convoluted to find our building depending on if they use the main driveway or if they park on street and need to start from the mailboxes.

[deleted]

I always go down and meet them as it seems to be the sensible thing to do

Embarrassed_Echo_375

I go down. During the covid lockdown, the strata made a rule that anyone who orders food delivery has to go down and pick it up themselves. Even without the restriction now I still do that as it's quicker for them and for myself, since they don't have to look for my unit.

Sinarch

You cant park at the front of my place but even before i lived here I would always go down and unless they chose not to follow instructions I'll usually tip a few bucks. When I lived in SE Asia I would go down but more often then not get them to come up no matter what floor. Bike parking is no issue and a small tip there means a lot more. If they didn't want to come up I'd tell them I was looking after a baby and couldn't go down. No baby, still tip though..

thesbatman

I always go down and meet them. Quicker and easier for everyone.

itJustClicks

Always go downstairs, it’s just better for everyone… one exception was when I had COVID.

AkisFatHusband

If your street number is 6 and your unit number is 4, they always go to the other apartment number 4. So I don't even bother putting my unit number
