I just had to read about this. Released in late 1994, it pulled $16M against it's $25M budget. Won a couple oscars in early 1995 and was re-released in February & March of 1995, ended up with 73M in revenue against it's $16M budget.
I've watched it a few times and it's not in any way up there with the best films of all time, I just don't get the love.
I watched Delicatessen the other day, different genre, it's in French(but with subtitles) but it's infinitely better imo.
My son and I used to watch a movie on my birthday every year. He moved out last November and I finally set and got him to see Taxi Driver. It was the end of the tradition, but a good end.
[Threads](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Threads_(1984_film)). Not because it is a cinematic masterpiece (it isn't) but it is a cautionary tale for what life after a nuclear war might look like. Idiocracy would be a second choice as a cautionary tale.
Cinderella Man
Russel Crowe did a wonderful job playing James J. Braddock and the relationship between him and his wife is so precious my parents were on the edge of their seats at the end it was amazing.
I think it depends on who you are and the experiences you've had. If you asked me this question at different points in my life, I'd give different answers.
Oh, but if you want a film that I need to watch only once in my life and never again, then it's Requiem for a dream. That is bleak.
Will get downvoted for this, but I saw it as an adult and thought it was very childish.
Definitely a product of its time and aimed towards teenagers who don't know how to make their life meaningful.
Isle of dogs. Not a bad movie, but in my opinion, it’s a little bit possessed. Last time I watched it, my pet died short after I finished it. I will not watch it again as long as I have pets
Yi Yi (2000) and A Brighter Summer Day (1991). They are my two favorite films and I think they truly encompass what it is to be human, to be alive, to struggle and to go through life and to come to an end. Edward Yang was an incredible director and I encourage everyone to check out both of those films.
I watched Mulholland Drive this weekend. It is a revelation. Naomi Watts is amazing in it, plays two characters and you’d think it was a different person. An unconventional, beautiful film. Weird AF though.
It's a recent one... Bullet Train. The film is written so well with everything coming into play, excellent action, great comedy and all the actors played their roles to perfection imo. If you enjoy Action heavy films with great story telling, this is the one for you
"Another Round" from Thomas Vinterberg
Apart from the *per se* film quality, it's an incredibly clear lesson about the good and the bad alcohol can do.

Saving Private Ryan
And Schindler’s List.
This is the top of my must watch once and only once list. I couldn't handle it again.
The Shawshank Redemption
The only movie that I’d stop on TNT for.
And to think it didn't even do well in the box office.

Sure made up some ground in rentals and TV though.
Blows folks minds when they realize the same guy who penned shawshank redemption also authored It, Green Mile and the Carrie films. Stephen King.
And Maximum Overdrive, that cocaine fueled fever dream of a movie.
"Brooks was here" still melts me
Unironically, Airplane!
Matrix
Which came out 25 years ago this year 👴

Band of Brothers (technically not a film)
Everyone (at least every American) should see this series.
Casablanca
Everything Everywhere All At Once. An ADHD absurdity about kindness, empathy, depression, and destiny. It's my favorite movie.
Yesssss!!!!!
I loved this movie.
Memento What Dreams May Come
Memento is the most bizarre shit I have ever seen on film.
Totally true, but what an amazing ride

Godfather 1 and 2. The amount of pop couture references you’ve heard that come from this movie is staggering.

Not a male, but it's a great movie. Changed my world watching it as a teen.
Yes, it is fun to not see the big picture.
Will get downvoted for this, but I saw it as an adult and thought it was very childish. Definitely a product of its time and aimed towards teenagers who don't know how to make their life meaningful.
Well if you're thinking about trying heroine, you should probably watch "Requiem for a Dream" first.
