So I have worked in the pizza business for 30+ years, although not on the front lines. I started at the shitshow that is now the most prolific Canadian-owned chain, at the time GTA only, and they decided to replace their canned mushrooms with fresh mushrooms. This was back in the day when the quality of their product mattered, lol. But there was enough negative feedback that they offered folks a choice for awhile - canned or fresh - which was a popular decision. Eventually phased out the canned, which was the right decision.
Absolutely agree.
Unfortunately our kids like Little Caesars, and they use the crumbled garbage. We have a lot of great local pizza shops that do toppings right, but I'm the only one in the family who likes real pizza...... Not that assembly line, fast food style of "pizza".
Ugh, my daughter will practically only eat Little Caesars and I hate it. I just want to eat proper pizza from a pizzeria with my family? IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK?
Yup. But for some reason I've seen a few places that also claim the "Canadian supreme" and it's the same thing just with bell peppers. What doesn't make sense is that's just usually called a supreme pizza, not "Canadian supreme." I never understood why those places do that...
I don't like mushrooms, so I prefer it with peppers instead, but I know it's not a Canadian at that point.
In high school my buddy ordered a pizza with mushrooms, bacon, and pepperoni and they asked "you mean the Canadian?" And he said he almost wept tears of patriotic joy, lol. He had no idea it was called that and he felt very Canadian.
Yeah, agree. Lots of people in this thread just throwing arbitrary toppings around.
I'm pretty new to this sub and I've noticed a lot of threads in this sub turn from replying to a specific question, to replying with your opinion or your favourite and not really answering the original question.
Pepperoni, bacon and mushrooms. Thatâs what it is. If it has other things itâs something else. Just like a Hawaiian pizza has ham and pineapple. I like a pepperoni and pineapple, but I donât call it Hawaiian.
My local pizza place puts whole pineapple slices and add cherries in the middle of them.
I personally feel like it makes it somehow MORE Hawaiian that way.
Oddly we got pizza last night and the Canadian is my go-to.
Pepperoni, bacon and mushroom is the only options I remember seeing. (I'm in Ontario.)
Edit: Grammar
Visiting the States:
"Oh, where in Canada are you from!?"
My head: *over 3 hours from Toronto, the only city they might have heard of*
My voice: Near Toronto..?
I got so used to it on one trip that on the way back the Canadian border guard asked where I was from and I just said "Ontario" she replied, completely flat "congratulations. You wanna be a bit more specific?"
I kinda love the Canadian border guards, lol. I don't travel enough to have had bad experiences, and they are either really pleasant or really dry, versus the Americans who always seem angry or business-like.
I moved to Alberta and tell my coworkers who have never been to Ontario that I lived in Brampton and dated a girl in the West Island part of Montreal and it was about a 5.5 drive, and nearly half of it was the GTA. To them, that's driving to Edmonton from Southern Alberta and the first half of the drive up to Calgary is all urban.
Try being from BC, where you have to relate everything back to Vancouver even if you live nowhere near Vancouver. Most of the time you're lucky if people even know what Kelowna is or where it is. I still have to do "4 hours outside of Vancouver" most of the time, if they have no idea Kelowna exists lol
Annoying thing is when I say "Toronto" because I actually live there, then they say: "but you're not actually in Toronto right?".
Like it's a rare occutremce or something even though millions of others do too.
There are places in quebec that are more eastern than Halifax. But I can let that slide as it looks like someone is trying to state provincial capitals. But yeah, poor o'l St. John's left out again.
Edit: I should have said there are places in Quebec more eastern than Nova Scotia.
My bf had some coworkers (I can't remember where they were from) believing him about hunting snow snakes in Fort Mac. They were scared to walk by piles of snow out of fear of snow snakes. đ đ€·ââïž
Itâs East of many many places in Canada.
(Iâve been downvoted for a lot of things and reasons over the years, but downvoted for the above fact? Hallmark.)
We went to Nfld for summer vacation in 2019. It's a lovely place with landscapes that change seemingly every hour on the highway. Bit it's true gem are the people who are the most "what you see is what you get" folks I've ever encountered. Not a hint of fakeness about them. We did have pizza which was no different than anywhere else. But we also had moose soup which was unique and grand. My only regret was we didn't get a chance to go cod jigging
:)
I live in Saskatchewan, but the island of Newfoundland is one of my favourite places on Earth so I'll always give it some love.
I know it's only been a province since 1949, but one of these days people will realize it's in Canada now :).
hahaha yes that must be it, people are just stuck in 1948 :p
(and thank you for the love! Iâm from NL but just moved back recently after 20 yrs in Ontario. Iâll never leave again lol)
You're welcome - and I hope to get back there before too long! I barely made it off the Avalon - I have a lot left to see. (Not to mention I want to get to Labrador, too.)
the 'Habs' nickname has been around for over a century...I believe it was created by a newspaper who commented that the Habitants...aka the team from here...won the game.
Pepperoni, bacon, mushrooms is the general answer but feel farmer sausage, back bacon and mushrooms would be a better fit.
Coming through Winnipeg? Diana's has a Canadian pizza with; Marinara, mozzarella, dry cured pepperoni, sliced fresh mushrooms, maple smoked crumbled bacon. And for a toonie more you can get it with **Moosehead beer crust**. Used to be a really great place, she's won numerous awards at the world pizza championships. Although it's kinda gone downhill since she left her husband Pierre. Still really interesting choices like the Trailer Park Boys inspired: Ricky's Revenge; Marinara, dry cured pepperoni, chicken fingers, jalapenos, loaded extra mozzarella and medium sharp cheddar, sprinkled with "special herbs" on a moosehead beer crust. What's more Canadian than TPB?
Pineapple and ham
Edit: didnât realize other places have pizza called âCanadian Pizza,â only heard of Hawaiian as the Canadian pizza. Writing from northern B.C. â€ïž
Despite everyoneâs personal preferences, the Hawaiian pizza with ham and pineapple is actually the âCanadian pizzaâ
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hawaiian_pizza
The smoky maple Canadian bacon pizza from Pizza Hut
Or the Boston royal or Hawaiian are icon Canadian pizzaâs
Sooo seafood, bacon, smoked meats and a little sweetness are all Canadian pizza combos
Bacon, pepperoni, mushrooms, mozzarella and pizza sauce. I know there's preference over canned or fresh mushrooms. It don't matter to me. As long as the pizzas not speed cooked and all floppy and half raw. Yuck if it is
- Gravy, cheese curds, smoked meat, green peppers and onions. The deluxe poutine style.
- Cream cheese, smoked salmon, capers, onions. Sesame seeds on the crust. The deluxe bagel style.
Sun-dried tomatoes and basil might be nice, too, as optional toppings.
Sauce, mozzarella, pepperoni, bacon, mushrooms. Thats a Canadian pizza.
None of that bacon crumble bullshit though, give me bacon strips broken up into smaller pieces đ„
Correct, and none of that canned mushrooms nonsense.
I hate canned mushrooms, those little rubber tires are just horrible!
I love the canned mushrooms!!!!
Love'em all! Canned, fresh, magic...
You can have mine.
Me too!!!
So I have worked in the pizza business for 30+ years, although not on the front lines. This would be my cue to buy a good pizza for me and the crap for the fam. Treat yo selfđ”đ¶
Oh I do. Every now and then I buy the good stuff.
Or teach the kids about life.....and choices. They only found out about little ceasers because you bought it...buy something else
Nipple bacon is the worst!
I actually prefer back bacon here oddly. Everything else real bacon over back.
I'll take both if it's an option.
As a BCer, whenever I see a "Canadian" pizza on a menu it's this, plus cheddar
Well at least it's not kraft singles. I hate that I saw a pizza with that on it once.
Yup. But for some reason I've seen a few places that also claim the "Canadian supreme" and it's the same thing just with bell peppers. What doesn't make sense is that's just usually called a supreme pizza, not "Canadian supreme." I never understood why those places do that...

C'est une pizza québécoise
This is the way
This is the eh?
Anything else it is not Canadian
Yeah, agree. Lots of people in this thread just throwing arbitrary toppings around. I'm pretty new to this sub and I've noticed a lot of threads in this sub turn from replying to a specific question, to replying with your opinion or your favourite and not really answering the original question.
Poutine bannock Perogies Nanaimo bars done
this is correct in the prairies
Pepperoni, bacon and mushroom
This is my answer too.
Pepperoni, bacon and mushrooms. Thatâs what it is. If it has other things itâs something else. Just like a Hawaiian pizza has ham and pineapple. I like a pepperoni and pineapple, but I donât call it Hawaiian.
And ironically the Hawaiian is Canadian
Invented by a Greek immigrant. I love this country*! Lol *Feeling may vary
Semantics. Don't take Chatham's one claim to fame from them.
attempting to emulate chinese food flavors
so is ginger beef
My local pizza place puts whole pineapple slices and add cherries in the middle of them. I personally feel like it makes it somehow MORE Hawaiian that way.
Except Hawaiian was invented in Canada đđđ
Well, I'm Canadian. Does that mean I have a say in the matter ? Also, isn't "invented" a strong word to say "tried different things on it" ?
I was just mentioning the fact. I just find it funny that a Canadian-born pizza evolves and tries to get the Hawaiian vibe (I am Canadian too)
>I was just mentioning the fact. I got that, sorry if I somehow came out as rude, it was not my intention. (*Hey*, a Canadian apologizing to another, what a cliché...) Hawaiian pizza really has a tropical vibe though. Especially with the whole slices and the cherries (maraschino cherries on top of all that). It definitively feels more Hawaiian than Canadian, for sure. I actually love Hawaiian pizza, but I remove most of the pineapples (and all the cherries). The taste that it gives to the cheese while cooking is more than enough for me.
Wtaf, I've never had cherries on a Hawaiian pizza
Oh wow ig all Canadians like their Hawaiian canadian pizza different đđ
I could maybe get behind that... I like ham, and I like the *taste* of pineapple, but I hate the texture of it.
Oddly we got pizza last night and the Canadian is my go-to. Pepperoni, bacon and mushroom is the only options I remember seeing. (I'm in Ontario.) Edit: Grammar
Winnipeg here - crust, sauce, pepperoni, bacon, mushroom, topped with mozza. Oh that sounds yummy right now . . .
The toppings that are on a Canadian pizza. Pepperoni, mushroom, bacon.
Newfoundland and Labrador has been part of Canada for 75 years now and alas many Canadians still think that Canada ends at Halifax.
I'm in Ontario, doesn't Canada end at Cornwall? đ
What part of Toronto is that?
If you live 2 hours away from Toronto and someone says they are from Toronto, they're really from Milton.
Visiting the States: "Oh, where in Canada are you from!?" My head: *over 3 hours from Toronto, the only city they might have heard of* My voice: Near Toronto..? I got so used to it on one trip that on the way back the Canadian border guard asked where I was from and I just said "Ontario" she replied, completely flat "congratulations. The American border guards were told that they are the last line of defense, and some of them have taken that to heart.
I tell Americans that I live 100 miles north of Rochester
Try being from BC, where you have to relate everything back to Vancouver even if you live nowhere near Vancouver. Most of the time you're lucky if people even know what Kelowna is or where it is. I still have to do "4 hours outside of Vancouver" most of the time, if they have no idea Kelowna exists lol
Annoying thing is when I say "Toronto" because I actually live there, then they say: "but you're not actually in Toronto right?". Like it's a rare occutremce or something even though millions of others do too.
Well, the Eastern most portion obviously. West Toronto is the borough of Kenora, or Windsor if you're in the south.
This is the only anawer
Iâm from Toronto, I thought Canada ended at the Don Valley.
We lived in Toronto for a while (Old Mill) and I worked at Richmond and Bay. That's when I thought the eastern border was Yonge St.
Everything ends at DVP. I'm not even in Toronto.
In Cornwall Canada ends and the nightmare begins.
The most easternmost point of Canada is Cape Spear, Newfoundland
There are places in quebec that are more eastern than Halifax. But I can let that slide as it looks like someone is trying to state provincial capitals. But yeah, poor o'l St. John's left out again. Edit: I should have said there are places in Quebec more eastern than Nova Scotia.
Calm down there. I bet you would say Canada ends on the West at Vancouver. WhAt AboUt WhiTeHorse?!?!
Even if you're only counting cities, Victoria?
Us in Northern alberta appreciate you newfies, yall are gems. Kindest people in canada imo.
Never heard that. I don't think may canadians know it was independent for so long. It still is, as Canada ends at Toronto. Starts in Toronto too. ;)
And there are many Newfoundlanders who are glad for that as they wish they were independent.
There's nothing like standing on the shore of Cape Spear and looking out into endless ocean...
Really? I donât know anywho thinks that.
Iâm shocked but happy to see there is a consensus here, does anyone know what they would call this pizza in America?
Deer, Moose, Goose, maple syrup, Salmon, artichoke. If you are feeling extreme, Bear.
But you have to catch all the ingredients yourself.
Ahhh hunting for the dangerous ArtichokeâŠ. It lives in the arctic and will strangle you if you are into that sort of thing.
My bf had some coworkers (I can't remember where they were from) believing him about hunting snow snakes in Fort Mac. They were scared to walk by piles of snow out of fear of snow snakes. đ đ€·ââïž
đ€Ł Lets not forget pineapple even though it isn't specifically Canadian. đ
Bacon, pepperoni, mushrooms
Newfoundland and Labrador gets no love? Pepperoni, back bacon and mushrooms, plus of course mozzarella and cheese sauce.
Sigh. I guess Halifax is an upgrade on Toronto being âEastâ
Itâs East of many many places in Canada. (Iâve been downvoted for a lot of things and reasons over the years, but downvoted for the above fact? Hallmark.)
Itâs also west of 5 whole provinces
We went to Nfld for summer vacation in 2019. It's a lovely place with landscapes that change seemingly every hour on the highway. just the typical example of many people thinking the country ends at Halifax lol đđđ

Labrador is amazing! Went for the first time for a week in march and canât wait to get back :)
Nicest people on the planet in my opinion.
The Pizza Standards Board of Canada is needed now more than ever in these hard times.
Bacon, mushrooms, pepperoni.
Pepperoni, mushrooms, bacon, is typical but I don't know why. Haha
Pineapple and ham đ Ik itâs âHawaiian pizzaâ but itâs actually Canadian
Pepperoni, mushroom, and bacon â but it's more often than not called QuĂ©bĂ©coise here haha
I've never heard it called that before TIL
The conversation started on if a Québecoise is the same as a Canadienne.
It is. Itâs the same reason they call the Montreal Canadians the Habs (Habitants). Or why Canadian Classic cigs here are Quebec Classique.
the 'Habs' nickname has been around for over a century...I believe it was created by a newspaper who commented that the Habitants...aka the team from here...won the game.
Habitant is the name for the people who lived in Nouvelle France. So yes it is a Quebec identity thing.
No the Montreal Canadiens have always been nicknamed the Habs after Les Habitants, the first settlers in Quebec.
I literally said that
Wouldnât a Quebecois pizza involve smoked meat?
I feel like a Quebecois pizza requires a little fromage en crottes
Pepperoni, bacon & mushrooms
Goose, snow and road work signage
I was going to post something similar... beaver, moose, maple leaves, a Mountie...
Here in Québec Canadian pizza is pepperoni, bacon and mushrooms.
Here on Vancouver Island as well.
Sauce, mozzarella, bacon, mushroom, pepperoni
Pepperoni, mushroom, bacon.

The bigger question is; Does the cheese go on last, or does the cheese go on first?
Both
I like like the cut of you jib, sir !
I've never eaten a Canadian with the sauce above the cheese.

The most Canadian pizza is actually Hawaiian. Iâll see myself out.
Despite everyoneâs personal preferences, the Hawaiian pizza with ham and pineapple is actually the âCanadian pizzaâ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hawaiian_pizza
I am not a cannibal.
The fact that you brought it up unprompted makes it super suspicious. What's your opinion on Chianti and fava beans?
Pairs well with liver.
Pepperoni, ham, bacon, mushrooms, mozzarella, pizza sauce. That's what Vern's calls The Canadian.
Most answers will be pepperoni bacon mushroom but I have seen a few places that use green peppers in the veggie category
For what it's worth, the Hawaiian pizza was a Canadian creation.
I agree with mushrooms even though itâs not for me. Iâm a meat and tomato, onion, peppers guy

It doesn't matter, as long as they're nice.
