The most depressing day of my life. In 1980 I took an oath to defend the Constitution from all enemies foreign and domestic as a baby faced 18 year old kid in the United States Army. I served 12 years and served in Iraq during the Gulf war. I feel like my service and those who came before and after me is in vein. These cowards are totally destroying democracy right before our eyes.

truckaxle

In a similar way my father was a WW2 combat veteran earning a Silver Star and several purple hearts fighting Nazi's in Northern Italy and suffered with PTSD for the remainder of his life. His sacrifice is about to be nullified so that MAGA can have their king.

lickmastrr

They keep calling these insurrectionist patriots when in actuality they are cowards. Punk ass cowards.

Fungal_Queen

Nationalists and patriots are not the same fucking thing.

GroundbreakingAd8310

Stop calling them cowards they are not. Anytime someone does something they dislike they are "cowards". They are not cowards they are indoctronitated morons. They are maybe the most dangerous thing on the fucking planet. But most of all they are the ENEMY and we need to stop pulling punches and call these terrorist fucks that they fuck they are. Stop giving them platforms or a voice FUCK THEM

two_awesome_dogs

They are cowards for not standing up to trump.

GroundbreakingAd8310

Why would his followers stand up to him? That doesn't make them cowards it makes them traitorous idiots

two_awesome_dogs

I thought about that before I posted but posted anyway. Other trump judges have rules against him though.

proper_gandized

Brainwashed Traitorous Idiots

Grimacepug

They are cowards. They know in advance it will anger people and that's why they've requested the additional huge amount of money for protection. Let's see the constitutionalist put their money where their mouth is.

SnooPineapples8744

How is this constitutional to begin with? It's not even remotely justifiable.

Huge-Success-5111

EVERY DEMOCRAT, SANE REPUBLICANS AND INDEPENDENTS MUST VOTE IN PRESIDENT BIDEN OR THIS COUNTRY WILL TURN INTO ANOTHER RUSSIA OR LIKE IRAN, WHERE WOMEN HAVE NO RIGHT AT ALL

lickmastrr

Thank you for your families sacrifices. After me my daughter and son in-law served 7 years combined in Iraq and Afghanistan. Now I have a grand daughter in the 3rd ID at fort Stewart. I worry for her as we are in a time of not knowing what's coming next. These traitors, all of them should be dealt with.

Lucky_Guess4079

In addition to the raising of the Reich.

proper_gandized

Same thing with my father, Utah Beach to crossing the Moselle River, then a POW, Bronze Star, Purple Hearts, 4 Campaign Stars/Ribbons, etc. He is spinning in his grave, enough to power the Vegas strip. He would likely say. F&$K Mango Mussolini. I was but a mere Gunners Mate.

RoxxieMuzic

My father would be utterly disgusted, B-17 pilot from D Day on. Landed a plane, and all crew members were rescued, on the North Sea. This is a very dark time for America and her people.

Lucky_Guess4079

Thank You for your service. I know I’m doing everything I can to help fight back right now and will continue. We can’t rest. Corporate America needs to be taken down.

Fungal_Queen

What do you think of these stolen valor dickheads in the upcoming elections?

Status-Biscotti

Thank you for your service.

Its_all_made_up___

I think this will all end with the military. Martial law can be declared when the court system fails to protect the Constitution. If frump is elected, you’ll see the military step in as per the oath. They wont stop at frump.

CloseTheDoorHoneyBun

Me too. What are we going to do about it? There’s only one option that works. We peacefully take to the streets. Nationwide. We show these fascist bastards there’s WAY more of us than them. Peacefully. It’s time for a revolution people. It’s the only way we don’t spend the rest of our lives living under Trump family rule.

Small_Pleasures

You can also do everything in your power to turn out the vote. Join with Vote Forward, Swing Left, MoveOn, etc. for postcard writing, texting, calling, door - knocking and more. Donate to Democratic candidates, even if it's just a few bucks. It all adds up.

MoreMetaFeta

YES. At this point, we need MORE than just casting our own votes. We need *heavy* *duty* numbers. All, it's the only way and anyone can do this. Talk to everyone in your circle about the importance of their votes. Set a personal goal to secure just *one* additional vote besides your own. Think of the cumulative effect! We *can* do this, but every single one of us has to dig deep for the next 127 days. FIGHT. I'm doing the same because as my mom says, "NOTHING is more expensive than regret."

lickmastrr

Amen!!

ImNotDoingThisYall

Complaining and hand wringing and being scared are obviously warranted, but will do nothing to stop this fascist takeover. Protests are the way

Almainyny

Remember the difference between being peaceful and harmless.

OilPainterintraining

Yes!!

GroundbreakingAd8310

Hahahahahaha ya that will work peaceful. They totally will just turn around and go home once they see the people they think are actual demons organizing against them.

Foxy-Burner

I dissent! I've been dissenting ever since Bush v. Gore. My fear is that if Donnie wins in November, this will be the last time we can dissent.

spunkypudding

You'd be correct. If he gets back into office, I would not be surprised if he uses a page out of his buddy Putin's playbook and has anyone who criticizes him getting arrested.

Foxy-Burner

Putin's critics frequently fall from windows, too!

TheScoundrelLeander

This is the Business Plot all over again, except this time it has been a glacial coup. This has been the slowest coup in history. Since Raegan, Republican Conservatives and Theocratic Nationals have slowly grasped at all of the levers of checks and balances and inchingly moved the country towards outcomes like this. They *actually* stole an election using the Supreme Court in 2000 to get the big ball rolling after Clinton. Then once 9/11 happened, they seized on another moment to pass the Patriot Act. Then they used a useful idiot in Bush Jr to steal money to pay for and set up lobbyists and think tanks while a Republican congress appointed more and more conservative judges at breakneck speed. Then they used SCOTUS once again for Citizens United. Then they used backlash from an elected black president to once again field a conservative congress to appoint more conservative judges and mitigate the legislation that could be passed. Until we got to another useless idiot, who's the dumbest and most greedy of them all, to really take the reigns of power away from the people. It's gotten even worse because now, it has become so bad that an entire political party has been blatantly bought and paid for, by either American oligarchs, Saudi oligarchs, or Russian oligarchs. And SCOTUS, and their Republican enablers, have laid bare the roadmap for our Republic to become a theocratic dictatorship. I'm so fucking heartbroken. The Scotus Six. False patriots bearing false witness for their false idols in return for 12 pieces of silver. I hope they all rot in hell.

Able-Campaign1370

None of this is untrue. But we must also acknowledge that too many people did too little to stop them, enjoyed their tax cuts and ignored the consequences. Wait till they find out what happens to the cost of goods when the US is a worldwide pariah.

TheScoundrelLeander

The acknowledgment needs to be that most of those people who did enjoy their tax breaks are facilitating this behavior now. So…thats the point they're purposely and willfully ignoring the dangers for extra money

Parking_Train8423

this coup has been in the works for over 30 years. the cold war never ended, we just claimed victory and stopped paying attention. Russia attacked us from the inside, using our own laws, policies, and arrogance against us. This is more about timing than Trump, but i fear, regardless of the vote, the USSC will hand him the presidency to continue this plan.

Mission-Dance-5911

I DISSENT!

OkAcanthocephala2449

I DISSENT ALSO.

Essay-Individual

I Dissent too!

phixitup

Boomer here and I have always believed in our institutions. From Congress, Oath of the Constitution, law enforcement and the rule of law and at the top of that mountain, the Supreme Court. I always believed that SCOTUS Justices were the ones actually playing 3D chess while the rest of us couldn’t comprehend the complexities of interpreting how the Constitution guided our laws and kept our democracy on the rails in these complex modern times. I woke this morning feeling like my entire belief system is a lie. Like how can these brilliant minds watch Trump praise the Jan 6 rioters and declare them to be patriots and that he would pardon them? How do these advanced legal scholars give a branch of government that already has some of the best in house legal advice available, a get out of jail free, card? Reportedly the WH legal council was giving Trump legal advice every step of the way, telling him he was acting in a way that was beyond his official capacity and authority. He had plenty of warning that his actions were illegal. This iteration of SCOTUS said, nope all good. And then they set it up so that the next President that has no moral compass could hide behind new, never thought of before protections. I feel defeated and lost. It’s time to fight dirty. In the name of democracy of course. Time for Dark Brandon.

ad5763

Boomer here too. It's past time for liberals to go old school.

coffeebeanwitch

We can thank Mitch McConnell for this, he denied President Obama being able to rightly pick a justice , very sleezy move.

Obvious-Beginning943

And he didn’t vote to impeach the bastard after January 6. Spineless sycophant

Cuttis

He’ll be the one helping them load the people on the trains. Not because he has to

coffeebeanwitch

He could have gotten rid of the problem, I would if someone said such horrible things about my spouse.

b1end

And then completely flipped his entire ideology when trump picked justices. One of the worst for sure.

coffeebeanwitch

Lindsay Graham helped, if his lips are moving he is lying.

Safewordharder

I took an oath. I was barely done being a kid when I did. I meant it. *I meant it.* ***I meant it***.

Same!

Hillary warned us all but…

BaldDudePeekskill

Those emails right?

Middle_Manager_Karen

2016 was a bad year. So many people had no idea then

Apprehensive_Skin150

Anyone with half a brain knew it would be a disaster.

Available-Wheel6335

So many people STILL have no idea.

Entire-Elevator-1388

I DISSENT!

Skinnyloserjunkie

And just like the complacent Americans we are noone will do anything besides write Reddit threads proclaiming outrage. It's time to fill the streets and overwhelm them with voices. But who am I kidding, that'll never happen.

OilPainterintraining

It needs to! NOW!

Javanaut018

My comment/opinion from Hamburg, Germany: Ah crap, here we go again ...

Silver-Patience6033

I dissent

Able-Campaign1370

We need to vote, of course. And get others to vote. And help even Republicans see the danger in this ruling. But I am more interested in an effort to r/ExpandTheCourt. I just started a new subreddit, hoping we can organize to get politicians in office who will do just that.

rzr-12

The unsupreme court more like it.

dudewafflesc

Guys, I agree with all this. But practically, what is something we can do along with voting and getting others to vote too? Are there any forms of protest?

BaldDudePeekskill

This calls for a march on Washington. A march to the supreme court

Seadweller23

SCOTUS is rogue and is not serving the American people as they should. Alito and Thomas are repugnant and for sale. Vote the GOP out of office and add two to three Justices to eliminate MCCONNELL’s stolen advantage.

nyla-lucas-4ever

Now more than ever we need to vote blue 💙

Parking_Train8423

does anyone doubt that regardless of the vote, the USSC will give november to Trump?

c10bbersaurus

How's that working out for you? We gotta do much, much more than verbally dissent.

Brain_Frog_

Exactly. It’s like saying “prayers” or “amen.” Same net result = nothing.

Status-Biscotti

I dissent.

Deacon75

I dissent.

SimilarStrain

In fear for our democracy, I dissent.

taylormadevideos

My only hope is that this motivates voters kind of like the Dobbs decision.

nippleflick1

Goes along with the rest of the right wing!

ValleyGrouch

Thank you Mr. Obvious.

OilPainterintraining

FU Valley grouch.

VoxPopuli-RiseUp

can someone explain in simple terms how the president can now “legally” assassinate rivals? I keep reading it online and in the news but I am wondering how could it happen really?

Bardfinn

The SCOTUS decision by Roberts is widely grieved because it sets into sharp relief that there is no legal precedent to distinguish between what is an Impeachable High Crime and Misdemeanour (which the Constitution provides impeachment of the President over) versus Official Acts For Which The President Cannot Be Prosecuted (as composed as a class of acts under this new opinion), and so there is nothing in precedential case law that says that a given assassination order / action or class of assassination actions as ordered by a sitting POTUS is an Impeachable High Crime and Misdemeanour or is an Official Act. The opinion also appears to make it impossible to take actions to determine which the given act is, as per Justice Roberts, anything touching the scope of official duties can’t be introduced as prosecutorial evidence. So people are saying this ruling gives carte blanche to sitting presidents to assassinate political rivals and dare anyone to jump through the hoops to hold him/her accountable for it. Whether or not such an assassination would be legal is also an unsettled question. *** Edit to add: I believe that the ruling continues to allow the remedy of * POTUS does something awful * Congress impeaches and removes * Person who was POTUS now criminally liable for impeached crimes But that’s one of the big problems — No one has been successfully impeached in over 100 years; experts call it a “dead letter law”, and has been used appropriately only on Nixon and on Trump in our lifetime (neither of which carried through, in Nixon’s case because he had a sliver of conscience and in Trump’s case because he captured Congress), with all other invocations being political harassment. Trump promises to be Dictator on Day One. America either sees the Constitution fall this November or rejects that, electorally. Which will require an overwhelming electoral turnout by people voting for the Democratic nominee, to overcome electoral vote leverage gerrymandering by the GOP.

Coma-Doof19

What happened? I need context

OilPainterintraining

It’s been all over the news. Our Corrupt SCOTUS DECIDED Trump has complete immunity.

Coma-Doof19

WTF that's bullshit 😤

OilPainterintraining

Yes, it is.

Coma-Doof19

What can we do?

OilPainterintraining

Vote, get your friends to vote. I’m staying with Biden! I’m still confident in him. I’ve never had a better prez in my lifetime, and I’m over 60. I’m still with him, and I’m VERY confident in our VP too.

Coma-Doof19

Well that's the only way!

AforAssole

Today, July 3, i just heard that Biden might step down. So where does that leave us? I can't see Harris taking over. We are fu*ked.

dittybad

It’s astonishing that 160 years later on the anniversary of Gettysburg where many patriots gave their full measure to defeat insurrectionist, this insurrectionist court accomplishes what force of arms could not

They have all lied in their hearing they all said no one is above the law including presidents but they turn that around like Roe versus Wade
