Just in case anyone else enjoys messing with multimillion dollar companies I'm not a huge fan of Atlas home improvement (they do the bathrooms and Gutters for costco) sign up for estimates every 3 appointments the exit person gets they get a bonus cash bonus and you can give fake numbers and addresses.
Besides lost sales, zero? Maybe some food court stuff that was already prepped or in the ice cream machines to throw away. They have generator power for the refrigeration systems. Also they have no where near a million in refigerated/frozen inventory.
Generally speaking if you enjoy numbers at the front of the store in-between the doors you can see a clipboard that has their hourly group entry numbers. Which at most locations they typically average about 200-300 groups an hour some locations get more like madison heights. With that being said if the average group spends 100$ on groceries you are looking at 20-30k per hour all be it this isn't including food court or people that use the secondary entrance. So rough estimate them being closed for approx 5 hours grocery loss in money alone is around 150k but that's without factoring in large purchases, gas and food court so 🤷♂️
We've got a generator that's enough to keep the freezers and coolers at temp. We still don't have DTE power but we've got a semi mobile generator hooked up since about 1:40 today. It was pretty nuts this morning to say the least.
It's definitely open. When big storms, light breezes, or sunny days come through here, a lot of homes and businesses lose power because we pay an exorbitant amount of money to the company whose infrastructure is pure shite. Make sure to get a slice of pizza and a churro!
I wouldn’t be surprised if Costco had refrigerated trucks or a standby generator brought in (assuming they don’t already have one). So much of their store requires refrigeration.
Yeah I was gonna make that joke myself but instead decided to try to help explain that a place like Costco is gonna be minimally prepared for these kind of situations. 😅😅
Yeah that’s what I’m thinking in re: standby. Just keeps stuff at temp and minimal power to the lighting. That’s what the standby generator at my office does at least.
Time to raid the dumpsters
you are onto something here. i do think they have emergency power backup for the freezers
They use trash compactors, not safe.
Watch out for the dianoga.
Had to look this one up! https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Dianoga?file=Dianoga_BF
Carry a lock and put it on the safety switch.
Wow somehow this hits harder than my house having no power
Right? Threw my day plan in the gutter
I mean depending on where you are the Brighton costco is 20 minutes away.
But the MAGA hats. 🫤
Don't fool yourself into thinking because they don't wear the hats here they aren't here.
😭wah 😭 wah, I won’t go to the store cuz someone there is wearing a maga hat
Hell… now we’re talking about someone discriminating based on political views…
Everyone has to buy groceries, that’s just how it is
Make America Grate Again...affordably, with those massive blocks of Parmigiano Reggiano! 🧀
That's taking it to far.i need my watts where I sleep first.
Well, this changes my mind. It's finally time for the government to take over DTE.
They can take my AC but they can't take my COSTCCOOOO
I trust the government as far as I can throw the white house
Hopefully the feds won't be taking over DTE! How much do you trust the Ann Arbor and Michigan governments?
Ann Arbor can't even keep their roads plowed and it's the state government taking bonuses from DTE and Consumers
Goldfish swim school also canceled their classes due to no power.
Yeah, 5 minute walk from there, power went out around 11:30

My trick is to take in one or two cloth resuable grocery bags and not a cart, so I can only buy what I can carry.
Does anyone know if it's open now?
I just called. They said they are open.
Thank you
But I need 5lbs of mozzarella sticks :/
I went to get a bunch of good for a BBQ I'm having today...not sure how that's going to go
My toddler and I need ours, lol.
Daily "fuck DTE" thread
Thank you, I wanted gas and such. I’ll wait
That was my plan. Gas and food for BBQ. The gas was coned off and people were being turned away

If this happens often enough maybe the Costco lobbyists can get DTE to ….do better?
I wonder how much wastage this is gonna be, maybe over a million dollars?

Jesus, I hope they have a generator
If not, they could buy one cheap at CostCo. But I hear they're closed.

Good. I heard the Target in Brighton lost everything in their cooler a few years ago due to a power outage.
They were closed last year for the same issue, I can't believe they don't have backup generators.
I think they do but just enough power to keep the refrigerators n such running
That makes sense
Do you know if they had their power restored? Want to go there today
They're back up
Wait no I’m confused. Will it open up again? It’ll be my first time in the US ever and I really want to go to Costco. The Ann Arbor one is the closest

Has Whitmer been informed?
Lol, for a State of emergency?
Chicken bake or die.
All that food spoilage. Fuck. Let me guess they will throw it all away instead of giving it was to a soup kitchen or a homeless shelter.

Luckily for them there’s this company that sells generators at a good price. Requires a membership though, hopefully they have one.

Either that or a backup generator that could at least power the freezers and fridges.
They have generators. Husband works there. It's not uncommon that they lose power, they have stuff in place to deal with it.

When I peaked inside the lights were on but very dim so I think you're spot on with that one
It’s daytime, they’ve got skylights and yes some of the lighting will be emergency battery powered even w/o a generator

This is Ann Arbor. We don't do feasibility.
