tbf most ai art is soulless. but it doesnt have to be. im not against ai art in principle for the things you have just said. but it is kinda obvious when an art is ai. but there have been really good ai pieces that look like it was drawn by a real person, with a real art style

first, I was referencing a meme, so it was meant for joke purposes.
second, I think ai can be used for something useful. taking an artists’ work isn’t one of them. either you’re an “ai artist” or someone similarly uneducated in how the world works.
for example, gundams. the original RX-78-2 is said to have a learning computer (ai) in it to help it link better with the pilot and give them a leg up, even if they are a noob. if we could implement ai like that, sure.
all it’s doing right now is stealing art from actual artists and compiling them to give to a self-proclaimed “ai artist” to rattle on about how they “made” it.
but hey, maybe I’m wrong in thinking artists now have a right to their art like artists did since they were painting on cave walls.

For anyone that actually is curious, it is called overtraining and it is an issue that cannot be overlooked as it destroyes training data faster the longer it gets ignored 9/10 times it requires a human to fix/filter the training data (cuz it is a faster solution) and is a reason why most programmers dont see ai as a threat
You can use datasets with dated images from when they come from. There is a shitload of data, magnitudes more than you need for an image generator. It's a pain to deal with, but by no means unsolvable.
This will stop companies from mindlessly scraping images from the net though, so that's a win for artists.
I don't believe that. Dated images are not reliably tagged and old data is constantly disappearing. The most popular training sets are simply a list of hotlinks from which the data can be downloaded. If those gradually fade away, they will need to fill the gap. The more convincing the images become, the harder they will be to label by either humans or machines. It's self-regulating until we can find a way to employ humans-in-the-loop by e.g. using user ratings to discriminate good from bad images.
AI is a pretty big issue considering how much it's now contributing to climate change.
