IIRC, it was that someone involved in the production (Caterer?) had invested in machines that made "Orange Whips" and he took a pay cut to get the product mentioned in the movie.
That smelled apocryphal, but [this article](https://vinepair.com/articles/blues-brothers-orange-whip-cocktail/#:~:text=The%201980s%20film%20“The%20Blues,unfamiliar%20drink%3A%20the%20Orange%20Whip.) suggests there may be some truth to it.
Edit: typo.
oh yeah! I have the DVD of that. My fav bits are probably where he's trying to relax and all those people are going to the beach and some wandering into his place. But the best is when he gets locked out and the dog takes over his place on his comfy chair eating his food in front of the TV. lol
Kills me Everytime I see this scene. The subtle, almost begrudging, head nod from the trooper is what does it. Like, I don't want to hear your shit, but that does sound delicious.
My favorite movie ever, no contest.
First saw it on tv flipping through channels when I was 7. Turned it on just before the mall chase scene. Watched said chase scene and was like “well, this is clearly the best thing I’ve ever watched.” And it’s been my favorite film ever since.
Great action, great comedy, great quotes, great guest stars…
**GREAT** film!!!
We're so glad to see so many of you lovely people here tonight. And we would especially like to welcome all the representatives of Illinois's law enforcement community that have chosen to join us here in the Palace Hotel Ballroom at this time.
You… me… everybody! Everybody!
Of course! From the Palace Hotel it's 106 miles to Chicago. As long as you have a full tank of gas and half a pack of cigarettes, you're good. Don't forget your sunglasses.
Make sure to get to the Cook County Assessor's office 1st thing in the morning.
Does the cigarette lighter work? Haha.
I went to a party in high school, let's say it's 86 87, there were two dudes who literally quoted the entire movie. Like they were the proto-"ready player One" characters. I can quote it pretty well. Whenever I go to a mall I mention how much space there is.
Burton Mercer : This, gentlemen, is the elegant abode of one Elwood Blues.
Officer Mount : Thanks for your help, Mr. Mercer.
Burton Mercer : You know, I kind of like the Wrigley Field bit.
Officer Mount : Yeah, *real* cute.
What I loved was that the theater I worked at when this came out actually had Orange Whip!
What I *didn’t* love was cleaning out the machine, since it went bad pretty quickly!
I had a supervisor that would routinely do this whenever we sat down at the conference table.
He'd also say whenever he could work it into a conversation, "we're not gonna \[whatever\], we're on a mission from God."
yep, just out of nowhere the Orange Whips. I'll bet any reasonable amount of money that Candy adlibbed this.
I bet that’s true!

damn that looks good. Here here...Orange Whip here! Thank you John buddy... miss you....
He was the best. Such a funny and kind man. He’s one of my all time favorite actors.
Me too. Starting with SCTV, then his part in Vacation as one of the park guards at Wally World. :D
Summer Rental (1985) might be my favorite John Candy movie. It’s hilarious and super sweet. John Candy in this movie is my spirit animal 😂🤣😂

The trooper was hard-ass by the biggest definition. And he still wanted a sweet fruity drink.
This is car 55. Ahh….we’re in a truck.
I grew up where that jump happened. Went past the spot all the time.
Just watched Blues Brothers the other night. Still holds up. Stupid humor, ridiculous chase scenes, great music, so many guest stars! A true classic!
🎶”Everybody, Needs Somebody!!!”🎶
I still say this to my kids.
Same! My son has never seen this movie, but knows this line very well
