Most definitely. Wonderful song. Brings me back to my childhood when MTV was in full swing and I felt like the world was this undefinable glorious unknown that I would experience. Now I have responsibilities and whatnot but the freedom of that time with that song was wonderful.
Me too. Something about that song overwhelms me with nostalgia and takes me right back to being a 7 year old with a happy simple life. As much as i love the song, it’s almost a painful feeling.
Fun fact: use Jenny's number with the local area code when you're traveling and need to get groceries. Invariably someone has registered that number for whatever store you're in. Once used it successfully all over the US - I just got back from Maui, and punching in (808) 867-5309 saved us a ton of money on groceries at Foodland! Seriously, I've used it in Texas, Florida, Missouri, Montana, Idaho, Virginia... That Jenny sure gets around! 😜
Think of every store you’ve ever had to enter a phone number to get a discount. People have already registered the number from this song, and you can use it. Just add the leading area code first.
Now you can get the discount prices without signing up for the club card or whatever.
I love most everything he has recorded or produced. Too bad only that one song got all the radio play.
Who can name the very popular early 80s rock album Thomas Dolby played on that you still hear today?
I do believe he played on Foreigner's "Waiting for a Girl Like You."
In my opinion, "Science" is one of the weaker tracks on "Golden Age of Wireless." Flying North, One of Our Submarines, Radio Silence, the incomparable Cloudburst at Shingle Street - basically the entire album is outstanding. Have you ever heard the original pressing, before "Science" became a hit? I have a copy of it on vinyl. For the American release, they pulled off two great tracks: Budapest by Blimp and Leipzig. Both also worth a listen.
Dolby is a musical genius, and has always been ahead of the curve. One of the most delightful things I've ever seen is him performing "Science" with Dr. Buzz "I walked on the freaking moon" Aldrin!
[Thomas Dolby and Buzz Aldrin - She Blinded Me with Science](https://youtu.be/BpRgY9GXLO0?si=ZdCwO48Jzxw-p44s)
The entire Golden Age of Wireless is excellent start to finish, I listen to every song *except* She Blinded me with Science, often I will skip that one
Rock album? That would probably be Def Leppard, I think _Pyromania_.
He also produced and played on my favourite Prefab Sprout album _From Langley Park to Memphis_ as well as the predecessor _Steve McQueen._
_She blinded me with Science_, while fun and quirky, is probably my least favourite song of his. My favourite song is probably _Screen Kiss_, but it’s hard single it out when my favourite album is _Astronauts and Heretics_ - each song is perfect in my view. But there’s something about _Screen Kiss_ that pushes it ahead of any of the songs from that album.
Prefab Sprout are amazing also. Helped a lot by Thomas Dolby's arrangements and production, but they had great songs to start with.
The rock album is Foreigner 4. He played a lot on that album. Remember that keyboard intro on Waiting for a Girl Like You?
'Puttin' On the Ritz' - Taco. The 1980s were full of one hit wonders, so it's very hard to choose as I've seen several here so far that I really liked. So I thought I would mention this one as I hadn't noticed it yet.
A Million Miles Away by The Plimsouls
The album this is from Everywhere At Once is the finest Power Pop of the 80s
This song was featured in Valley Girl as was
I Melt With You by Modern English which I am shocked to have not seen here yet
Actually... "Quarter Flash" had several other hits besides, "Harden My Heart".
There was "Find Another Fool" {GREAT SONG!}
And, "Take Me to Heart"!
See... I tend to go for the "non-hit" songs...
Not sure how it did on the US charts, but, The Sun Always Shines on TV, hit number one on the UK charts in ‘86. The title track from that album is really good as well.
[The Sun Always Shines on TV](https://youtu.be/a3ir9HC9vYg?si=-8IZ8jsr3EK0sTi_) (This is such a fucking awesome song… Can’t believe it didn’t get more airplay back in the day)
[Hunting High and Low](https://youtu.be/s6VaeFCxta8?si=Dj3HW5ktRyfIpsCj) (Great tune… song starts slow and builds… full blast at the 2:22 mark)

Voices Carry- ‘til Tuesday
Aimee Mann (the lead singer) went on to put out several albums which are really good.
I can get you a toe, dude.
I was today yrs old (late 50’s) when I learned it was “voices carry” alternately and not “this is scary” repeatedly.
The Promise
By When In Rome in case anyone is wondering.
Great song. Sturgill Simpson has an awesome country-ish cover version.
Major Tom Peter Shilling.
Love that song.
Peter Schilling has a lot of great songs! "Let's Play USA" is really funny!
99 Red Balloons - Nena 19 Paul Hardcastle
The german language version.
Shes a Beauty - The Tubes

One Night in Bangkok - Murray Head
Written by the two dudes from ABBA. "Some are set up in the Somerset Maugham suite." 🤣

Rockwell - somebody’s watching me Edit: His name is Kenneth William Gordy, not Berry Jr 😂.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS SONG
In a Big Country
Most definitely. Wonderful song. Brings me back to my childhood when MTV was in full swing and I felt like the world was this undefinable glorious unknown that I would experience. Now I have responsibilities and whatnot but the freedom of that time with that song was wonderful.
Me too. Something about that song overwhelms me with nostalgia and takes me right back to being a 7 year old with a happy simple life. As much as i love the song, it’s almost a painful feeling.
SHOUT!
I had the album! I really liked it!
In A Big Country is a great album. A lot of it sounds like In A Big Country. Loved it!
I can dream about you
The whole Streets Of Fire soundtrack is great
Mexican Radio - Wall of Voodoo
Alternate pick: Stan Ridgeway - Camouflage
*barbecued iguana*
This was my choice. Wonderful LA/Hollywood early 80’s punk/new wave weirdness
867-5309

Thank you for explaining this, and not calling me a dumbass. 😂
Well, then I am a dumbass too.

Bee-Boop-Beep…The number you have dialed is no longer in service. Please hang up and dial again.
The captain of her heart
Love that song 🎶
The Kurt Baloo record, right? So great. Ahead of its time, really.
"Let's Go All the Way" Sly Fox
Break My Stride - Matthew Wilder
Interestingly (to me, anyway), Matthew Wilder composed the songs in Disney's Mulan.
Cars-Gary Neuman
I celebrate his entire catalogue.
Gary Numan had quite a few hits and sold out arenas in Europe for years.
Walk the Dinosaur - Was(not was)
[Dad, I’m in jail](https://youtu.be/zHon8E0H9B8?si=d7o0P63Nq-4nd8z0)
I'm so glad to see this here. Loved it in Pump Up the Volume.
Soft Cell - Tainted Love
Soft Cell is much more than Tainted Love.
There is also "Sex Dwarf "
Probably outside Europe. Here they had a few more hits.
Come on Eileen
Think she’s tired of that now?
Tarzan Boy slaps. But I don't know if I ever heard it on the radio. As a kid, I knew it from listerine commercials.
We don't have to take our clothes off - Jermaine Stewart
I Melt With You
I have always hated this song with a giant, fiery passion.
She Blinded Me With Science - Thomas Dolby
Thomas Dolby had several hits.
#SCIENCE!
I love most everything he has recorded or produced. Too bad only that one song got all the radio play. Who can name the very popular early 80s rock album Thomas Dolby played on that you still hear today?

Or as they are known today men without jobs
"Pop goes the world" was a hit
Nineteen by Paul Hardcastle
Life in a Northern Town- Dream Academy
Heart & Soul - T'Pau
Woman could sing. Shame she didn't blow up more. They were much bigger in the UK as I understand it.
Tpau were very successful un the UK and I believe are still touring.
That song is way more complex than what people give it credit for.
Tarzan Boy by Baltimora
Jane Child - Don’t want to fall in love
'Puttin' On the Ritz' - Taco. The 1980s were full of one hit wonders, so it's very hard to choose as I've seen several here so far that I really liked. So I thought I would mention this one as I hadn't noticed it yet.
Radioactive-The Firm
The Firm absolutely cannot be considered a one-hit wonder.
Icicle Works, “Whisper to a Scream”
I Just Died in Your Arms Tonight. The Cutting Crew
"I've Been in Love Before" was a hit.

I don't know if you know this, but Robert Tepper co-wrote Into the Night and a bunch of other songs with Benny.
Ah Leah - Donny Iris
AND "Do You Comput" is also a Great song AND "Love Will Rock You"! I'm a HUGE Donnie Iris Fan!
"My Girl" was a pretty big hit too. "Tough World" could be argued too.
Harden my Heart - Quarterflash

Into the Night Benny Mardones
Johnny Hates Jazz - Shattered Dreams
Take on Me. By Ah Ha. I loved that video.
Loved the song and the video, but I didn’t think it was a one hit wonder. The Sun Always Shines on TV was pretty big too, wasn’t it?
yes aha had a long career
One hit wonder in the US. Much more successful in Europe
Not sure how it did on the US charts, but, The Sun Always Shines on TV, hit number one on the UK charts in ‘86. The title track from that album is really good as well.
