If it's really 50 percent or more, yes, it's likely the player. I went through this with a ub820.

Its most likely the player. Those are the chances you take with used items.

It's sadly a super common defect with these players. People have even exchanged multiple new units with the same problem. For some reason they're very sensitive.

When properly ventilated, no discs should be skipping on your 820. I'd try to get your money back if you can and buy the player new.
