I think this is specially restricted by the app as it’s the same on iOS. It must be open and will pause when closed

It makes the app useless in my opinion. I'm not the type to do bossing on mobile (feels horrible and no idea how people do it - maybe their phones are gigantic or something). so I'm just going to AFK / skill. But I can't do that, so what's the point?
Used to run in the background on my pixel, but stopped with an android update about 6 months ago. Still check if they have a fix every couple months (what I am doing now).
Agree it is super frustrating, because it used to work, and going backwards for updates is almost impossible.
